Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, located in Chattanooga, TN, is a unique and joyful fine arts magnet school promoting academic and artistic excellence for students in grades six through twelve. The school balances a rigorous college preparatory academic program and an exemplary arts program in which students major in one of 8 options, including acting, instrumental music, communications/film, musical theater, visual art, vocal, technical theater, and dance.

At CCA, we celebrate acceptance and an appreciation for cultural differences. Our staff exhibits a caring and supportive attitude towards the individuality of our students. Our school climate and culture generates positive comments from our families. We have very involved parents who volunteer on a regular basis at our more than seventy performances and artistic opportunities.

We are looking for teachers who will embrace our arts theme and who enthusiastically want to be a part of a fine arts magnet school. Additionally, we are looking for teachers with professional goals and who understand that teaching with high expectations will help all students rise to their potential.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning: Deeply understand the Tennessee Academic Standards for Fine Arts and establish clear learning targets and lesson plans for every lesson. Build rigorous aligned assessments, administer district assessments, and consistently implement instructional best practices. Facilitate individualized instruction leading to successful student auditions for college and university degree programs and scholarships (if teaching High School), and other awards and recognitions. As provided under the TN Academic Standards for Fine Arts “Perform” domain, the school Theatre program will fully-stage at least two productions (plays or musicals) per school year, and may present classroom-based or smaller-scale performances in addition. A salary stipend is included for after-school rehearsals as necessary for performances.

The Theatre teacher may engage students in additional performance opportunities including but not limited to the following: Forensics (speech & drama) competitions, One-Act play competitions, Thespian conference performances, and others.

The Theatre teacher may also be asked to teach non-Theatre classes at the request of the school principal.

  • Classroom Culture: Build a safe and productive classroom culture that fosters student responsibility for personal and specialized Theatrical equipment. Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning to unfold. Students are provided with on-stage and off-stage roles (stage manager, tech crew, etc.). Student and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset and student-leaders are cultivated.
  • Family & Community: Consistently develop strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children. Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning (for example building sets, making costumes, ushering, etc.).
  • Professional Responsibilities: Actively participates in professional learning communities (PLCs) with colleagues in order to improve teaching and student learning. Reflect on instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school and district-wide Fine Arts department. Manage the program budget (including box-office, securing rights, fundraising, etc.) to facilitate continuous improvement and opportunities for students.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience:

  • Teaching candidates must hold a valid state of Tennessee teaching certification in Theatre K-12 or be an upcoming graduate in an accredited teacher preparation program. If you hold a teaching license in another state, you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license.
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree.

Compensation

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.

Salary Scale

This position may be eligible for an increase in total compensation. The Differentiated Compensation Plan applies to designated schools and hard-to-staff positions. Please see https://www.hcde.org/staff/human_resources/differentiated_compensation for more details.
