The purpose of this job is to plan, organize, and direct operations in the assigned area under the supervision of the Executive Director and/or Director of Exceptional Education.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a specialist and resource to professional and technical personnel in Exceptional Education, Central office, and throughout the school district.
- Exhibit skills in positively influencing instructional change on a district-wide level.
- Supervise and provide support to exceptional education directors, building level and lead staff in assigned schools.
- Support and facilitate the development and implementation of Instructionally Appropriate IEPs
- Support staff in shaping student behaviors.
- Complete federal, state, and /or local reports in areas of supervision.
- Identify issues and forecasting needs/trends and systematize successful operational and project management methods across the department.
- Design and provide professional development and training to staff in the areas of current trends, new and innovative strategies, assessment, programming, compliance, and best practices for serving students with disabilities.
- Complete staff evaluations and observations.
- Supervise, monitor, review, coach as needed, and evaluate the development and implementation of performance improvement plans, including observations and interim conferences.
- Assist building administrators with Project Coach Evaluations.
- Exhibit a sound knowledge of Easy IEP, Power School, and other technology resources.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Exceptional Education.
- Consistently exhibit appropriate verbal and written communication skills, as well as overall effective supervision of staff.
- Ensures compliance with district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
- Communicates through proper channels to alert Executive Director and other appropriate personnel of emerging problems.
- Consults and collaborates with Hamilton County Central Office support staff and leaders, State Department of Education, administrators, district employees, other officials and stakeholders.
- Assume initiative to explore issues and find potential innovative solutions.
- Anticipates, identifies, and resolves complex obstacles to ensure success of overall program as well as specific projects.
- Reports to Executive Director or designated Director
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
- May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Special Education, or Master’s Degree with endorsement in Special Education, or Master’s Degree in Administration Supervision with endorsement in Special Education with at least 10 years teaching and leadership experience.
- Experience in assisting education staff in behavior management strategies.
- Experience in successfully collaborating and reaching IEP consensus with parents, staff, students, advocates, and other IEP team members.
- Extensive experience and proven skills in educating students with Autism, behavioral difficulties, incarcerated youth, and knowledge and experience in designing and implementing postsecondary transition experiences including Project SEARCH, WBL, and Transition School to Work.
- Endorsement Code: Any K-12 special education endorsement code
- In-depth familiarity with curriculum.
- Ability to develop a plan for implementing Instructionally Appropriate IEPs within the confines of HCDE’s continuum of services for Exceptional Education.
- Extensive knowledge and abilities in scheduling, leadership, innovative problem solving, and collaboration.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Power School, Easy IEP, and other technical support areas as needed.
- Sensitivity to diversity in all its forms.
- Consistently delivers high quality outcomes under tight deadlines.
- Exhibits excellent attendance and reliability.
- Appropriately supervises and treats others with respect and value.
- Effective conflict resolution skills.
