Position Summary

The Student Support Case Manager (SSCM) housed within the Student Support Care Team and reporting to the Associate Dean of Students for Student Support, is a specialized position of support to students and the College community which blends direct support with collaboration and consultation with colleagues across the campus and outside support systems. The SSCM provides functions of non-clinical student consultation and support, coordination of student referrals, systems development for reporting and maintenance of student cases, and leadership in addressing factors which contribute to student attrition and improve student experience and success.

The SSCM will work to address the needs of students who struggle in such areas as psychological health, physical health, crime victimization, relationship violence/sexual assault, economic concerns, and social adjustment through a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow-up services. The SSCM will work to build and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a holistic approach to student and campus support.

This is a part time benefited position with a 90% work schedule. Full time during the academic year with 4 weeks off in the summer.

Responsibilities :

  • Respond to daily case management functions including but not limited to: response to student emergencies; consultations with members of the College community; and parent/student inquiries and concerns.
  • Assist in the continued improvement and implementation of departmental policies and procedures including but not limited to case management policies and protocols, outreach and education, campus wellness initiatives, and departmental publications.
  • Provide management and oversight of records and files pertaining to student case load. Ensure that records and data are up-to-date and maintained in accordance with Office and College policies and federal and state regulations.
  • Assist in preparing reports and analyses as requested.
  • Establish and foster relationships with campus partners within the Division of Student Life and across the College community to establish ongoing collaborations for the early identification and intervention with at-risk students and students in distress.
  • Working in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Students for Academics , coordinate with students and faculty to provide notification for academic interruption due to extenuating circumstances.
  • Facilitate medical leaves of absence and return to the College following a medical leave.
  • Serve as a resource and consultant to faculty, staff, and students on recognizing and responding to students in distress.
  • Serve on Department, Division, and College committees and task forces as requested.
  • Represent the department at campus presentations, professional meetings, and conferences as requested.
  • Provide support as instructed by the Associate Dean of Students and/or other leadership in responding to campus crises and emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Higher-Ed Counseling, or related field required.
  • At least 3-5 years of post-Master’s experience in higher education or closely related setting. Prior experience in higher education case management preferred.
  • Experience utilizing student development and case management models to aid in the personal growth and development of college aged individuals preferred.
  • Experience working with student victims and respondents of sexual assault and relationship violence preferred.
  • Experience in relationship building and accessing local and national resources for students preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of crisis/student support related areas such as sexual assault, relationship violence, psychological distress, issues related to severe medical concerns, family or origin, academic difficulty, identity, substance abuse, eating disorders, adjustment, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to position including but not limited to FERPA, Title IX, Title II.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of conflict mediation and crisis de-escalation.
  • Ability to work within and assist others in navigating through complex systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proven excellence in time management and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems, as well as handle a large case load of students.
  • Good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and inclusiveness working with populations of diverse cultures and identities in addressing issues of diversity, health, and social justice.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and foster relationships with colleagues and outside support providers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management systems and experience managing response to crisis situations.

Compensation Range:

$72,000 - $84,000 per year
