The Art History department at Hamilton College invites applications for a one-year visiting position in Global Contemporary Art History at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2026. We seek specialists in global contemporary art history whose teaching and research reflect transnational perspectives on art since 1945. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses such as ARTH-101 (early modern to present day), normally offered in the spring semester; upper-level electives such as ARTH-235 (Artists’ Writings) and ARTH-296 (Global Contemporary Art); and other courses related to their areas of specialization. The teaching load for this position is five courses for the academic year.

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. The Art History department at Hamilton College is committed to engaging students in the study of visual and material culture, performance, and the built environment across time, geographies, media, and technologies. Our curriculum spans a broad range of approaches and many of our courses engage with innovative digital technologies. Students have opportunities for experiential and project-based learning in their courses, including work with campus collections at the Wellin Museum and the Burke Library, as well as field trips to regional museums.

Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred. The expected 9-month base salary for this position is $77,900 to $80,400.
