Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and professional Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Driver to provide safe and timely transportation services for patients requiring non-emergency medical appointments. This role involves driving various vehicles, including vans to assist clients in reaching their destinations comfortably and securely. The ideal candidate will possess excellent driving skills, strong customer service abilities, and a commitment to maintaining vehicle safety and cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate with dispatch, members, and medical facilities.
- Must be able to operate required technology, including tablets, cellular devices , GPS navigation systems, and NEMT scheduling/medical transportation software.
- Must follow all dispatch instructions, trip assignments, routing directions, and operational policies as issued by the dispatcher or management.
- Must provide safe, courteous, and professional transportation services to all passengers at all times.
- Must be physically capable of:
- Entering and exiting vehicles multiple times per shift
- Assisting passengers in boarding and exiting vehicles
- Safely securing passengers, wheelchairs, and mobility devices
- Lifting and/or assisting with up to 50 lbs as required
- Drivers must maintain a clean, safe, and professional vehicle environment at all times.
- Cell phone use is strictly prohibited while driving or while clients are present in the vehicle, except for emergency situations in compliance with company policy.
- Must comply with all South Carolina Department of Transportation, company safety policies, and ModivCare transportation standards.
Experience & Eligibility Requirements
- Previous NEMT or transportation experience preferred but not required.
- Must have maintained a valid South Carolina driver’s license for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years.
- Must meet or exceed the minimum age requirement of 23 years.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as required by company policy and broker standards.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check in accordance with ModivCare and South Carolina NEMT requirements.
- Must maintain eligibility to drive under company insurance guidelines.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
