Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Habilitation Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in providing support and guidance to individuals with developmental disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum. The Habilitation Specialist will work closely with clients to enhance their daily living skills, promote independence, and improve their overall quality of life. Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities in various settings, including home and community environments.
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.
- Utilize behavior management techniques to promote positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
- Engage clients in social activities and skill-building exercises to enhance their socialization and communication skills.
- Collect data on client progress and behaviors for reporting and assessment purposes.
- Administer medications as prescribed while ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Maintain open communication with families, caregivers, and other professionals involved in the client's care.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills related to special education, behavioral health, and direct support.
Requirements
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities or autism is highly preferred.
- Background in special education or related fields is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with clients, families, and team members.
- Experience in caregiving or direct support roles is beneficial.
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies is desirable.
- Ability to drive and transport clients as needed for community outings or appointments.
- Experience in home & community care settings is an asset.
- Skills in data collection and documentation are necessary for tracking client progress.
