Position: Patient Navigator – Hereditary Cancer Testing

🕗 Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

About the Role
As a Patient Navigator specializing in Hereditary Cancer Testing, you will support patients through critical stages of their diagnostic journey. You will be based in St Thomas West, Nashville, TN providing education, coordinating care, and assisting with phlebotomy. You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary clinical team to ensure a seamless, supportive, and professional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide education and support for high-risk patients undergoing genetic testing.
- Register patients and schedule follow-up appointments.
- Build trust and confidence with patients by explaining procedures clearly and compassionately.
- Perform blood draws and specimen collection with accuracy and professionalism (~5–10% of role, with potential to expand).
- Accurately verify and label patient specimens at the time of collection.
- Maintain documentation, patient records, and uphold HIPAA compliance.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming clinical environment.
- Collaborate with the clinical team and area supervisor to complete daily tasks efficiently.
- Serve as a key patient contact, embodying HALO’s commitment to precision care and early detection.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant working within a clinical team.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Nationally certified phlebotomist with demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated competency in blood collection for genetic testing.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and support operations across more than one site as needed.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, if travel between sites is required.
Preferred
- Registered or Certified Medical Assistant.
- Candidates who are currently enrolled in any professional degree program and seeking meaningful, hands-on clinical experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in a patient service center or similar outpatient clinical setting.
- Prior experience in a customer-facing healthcare role.
- Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and strong data-entry skills.
Physical & Work Requirements (Essential Functions)
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods.
- Ability to perform venipuncture and specimen handling, including fine motor tasks.
- Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and staff, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow infection-control, safety, and clinical protocols.
