SUMMARY 

The Shipping & Receiving (S&R) Tech is responsible for the accurate moving, relocating, stacking, storing, repackaging, shipping, and receiving of product to meet company standards of safety, quality and productivity.  The S&R Tech is responsible for filling customer orders that meet company standards and customer requirements and is responsible for the completeness and correctness of all orders filled.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Safety, Sanitation, Security

Keeps a safety mindset and ensures operations are conducted in a manner that promotes safety throughout the day.  Maintain good security habits.  Maintain clean, neat and orderly work areas.   Responsible for following all environmental, health and safety requirements of the Company including immediate reporting of safety incidents, near hits, and unsure acts and conditions.  Demonstrate knowledge of basic manufacturing safety and OSHA guidelines. Comply with OSHA and MSDS standards.   Attend Right-to-Know information sessions and training.   Immediate response, correction and reporting of all safety, security and sanitation issues especially those with significant impact. 

 

Quality

Ensures inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.   Ensure inventory is labeled and properly stored.   Report quality variances.

 

Communication

Communicates directly with supervisor, Customer Service, Material Planning and other personnel to ensure all company and customer requirements are met as well as to report the ongoing work status.

 

Documentation

Ensures the accuracy of all receiving and shipping documents.  Gathers and maintains all data and records relative to shipping and receiving activities.   Assures that receiving counts match packing lists and purchase orders and that shipping counts match picking documents.  Be familiar with and/or know how to fill out/handle the following examples of paperwork: pick lists, Bills of Lading, delivery receipts, transfers, stock movement forms, receiving reports, break-bulk reports, returned goods, nonconformance reports, COAs, address labels, product labeling procedures.    Assists in resolving any discrepancies.   

 

Receiving

Unloads material from trucks, bulk tank wagons, tank cars and pallets following established procedures.  Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information.  Unload onto pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand.  Prior to product storage, count all product, compare to manifest and check all shipments for damage.   Write receiving reports.  Report shortages, damages and mis-shipments on appropriate forms and/or SAP.  Sign for inbound shipments.  Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.  Efficiently stack and store the product in appropriate areas.  Count, weigh and record the number of units of materials received on appropriate forms and/or SAP.

 

Repacking

Repacks and weighs materials or products on scales.   Labels as required.   Fill IBCs or other designated containers with finished product or raw materials as necessary.  Transfer between containers as needed to meet customer demand.   Repack materials for the purpose of product samples to current and prospective customers.  

 

Order Picking

Efficiently picks customer and distribution orders for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped.  Carry or transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms with materials handling equipment.  Label, stencil, tag, or mark orders as required.  Perform picking duties in an efficient manner that meets customers service standards.

 

Shipping

Reads pick lists, Bills of Lading, work order or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered or distributed.   Efficiently move product from staging and/or staging areas onto trucks, bulk tank wagons, tank cars, pallets, skids, or lifting device following established procedures.  Loads onto pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand.    Checks correctness of orders by comparing quantity, quality, labeling, and address with customer's order to ensure outgoing shipment are complete and correct.   Count, weigh and record the number of units of materials received or distributed on appropriate forms and/or SAP.  Attach identifying tags or labels to material or marks information on cases, drums, bags, gaylords or other containers.  Properly package, weigh, label and prepare paperwork for small packages or samples via small package shippers.  Ship documents via courier as necessary.  Accept signature of outbound product.

 

Equipment

Load, unload, move stack and stage product and material using a forklift or other power equipment.  Maintain the facility's equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.  Inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment daily.   Recharges batteries or replaces liquefied gas tank.  Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.    Maintains/stores equipment necessary to perform above listed duties.  Documents needed repair work as necessary to have equipment/unsafe conditions repaired/corrected.  Cleans work area, machines, and equipment.  Utilizes PC to work with SAP to locate, add, delete, or move materials as well as Lotus Notes databases.

 

Inventory

Read pick lists, work, manufacturing, distribution, or requisition order to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.  Conduct as necessary, SAP inventory inquiries and routine inventory postings, including receiving as well as customer and distribution order shipments.  Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts.  Ensure proper stock rotation.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.   Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES: Must be certified or licensed as a tow motor/Industrial Lift Truck Operator

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to enter and retrieve data from SAP and Lotus Notes databases.
