Sr. Assistant Superintendent
SUMMARY:
Assist Golf Course Superintendent with the maintenance of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This will include tees, fairways, greens, roughs, sand bunkers, mulch areas, landscaped areas, native grass areas, clubhouse grounds and all other grounds that are considered part of the golf course property. Direct responsibility for the application of plant protectants and fertilizers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the planning and supervising for all aspects of the golf course and grounds.
- Assist with the scheduling, training, and supervision of all employees in the maintenance of the golf course and grounds.
- Assists in the planning and implements all fertilizer and pesticide applications including calibration.
- Responsible for ensuring stock plant protectants and fertilizer inventories are supplied.
- Assist with the repair, maintenance, and scheduling of the irrigation system.
- Ensures all club policies are followed, disciplines employees as needed.
- Ensures a safe work environment including implementing procedures and policies as needed.
- Assists in prioritizing and directing crew’s daily activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of equipment used in department as well as the care and maintenance of landscape plants.
- Responsible for performing all required recordkeeping duties associated with pesticide/fertilizer applications and assists in recording the irrigation system, weather and rainfall data.
- Attends necessary meetings.
- Acting superintendent in their absence.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years of experience working on a golf course with bentgrass greens.
- Working knowledge of the maintenance of tees, fairways, greens, roughs, and other related areas of the golf course.
- Must have basic knowledge and understanding of plant protectant and fertilizer application methods including calibration.
- Must have basic knowledge and understanding of irrigation repair and maintenance.
- Must have or obtain withing 6 months of employment, a Kansas Pesticide Applicator license.
- Ability to communicate with crew management, and other departments in a professional manner.
- Understand the game of golf, including rules and etiquette.
- Must present detailed career goals including an education plan at annual evaluation.
- Must have valid Kansas Driver’s License.
- Predictable and reliable attendance is required.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. regularly and able to perform physically demanding manual labor for extended periods of time.
