We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Staff Geospatial Engineer or Staff Geospatial Scientist 2 to work in a technical support role with experience specializing in collecting and analyzing geospatial data, you will perform a wide range of tasks, including, GNSS data collection, LiDAR processing, and mapping using unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Your expertise will be instrumental in producing high-quality topographic surveys, orthophotos, and other geospatial products to support civil design, habitat restoration, and infrastructure projects. You will work closely with internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure deliverables meet the highest standards of accuracy and compliance. This is a full-time, hybrid position located in San Diego, CA or Walnut Creek, CA office.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
- Conduct field work, including piloting unmanned aerial system (UAS) flights, collecting GNSS measurements, setting up remote sensing equipment (e.g. geophones), and geohazard mapping.
- Expected to travel for fieldwork across project locations across the United States and its territories.
- Conduct office work, including creating and processing point clouds; generating digital elevation models; analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing data; and web development.
- Work to determine the optimal approach for using geospatial technologies to meet project needs, accurately estimate the corresponding level of effort, and then see implementation through to completion.
- Approach each task, regardless of size and scope, as an opportunity to rethink the conventional ways data is collected, managed, visualized, and delivered.
- Produce concise, clear, and compelling cartographic output with a keen eye for aesthetics.
- Balance a high level of creativity with adherence to established company GIS & CAD standards and best practices.
- Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
- Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
- Be willing to assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.
- Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health & Safety protocols.
- Demonstrate our foundational safety behaviors.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Geospatial Engineering, Geospatial Science, Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science or related field; M.S. degree strongly preferred.
- 1-2 years of related experience specializing in geospatial data collection.
- FAA Part 107 certification for commercial UAS operation.
- Proficiency with LiDAR systems, photogrammetry, and multispectral/thermal imaging.
- Proven experience in drone-based surveying
- Expertise in GNSS/RTK technology for ground control setup and calibration.
- Experience with data processing software such as Pix4D and Trimble Business Center.
- Knowledge in point cloud processing.
- Knowledge of national and global datums.
- Knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D) and GIS software (ArcGIS, Global Mapper, or similar).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and other relevant tools to improve survey workflows and data processing.
- Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills
- Ability to review, compile and interpret data to prepare accurate site-models.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Proficient technical writing and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work on a team and independently in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Candidates will be required to provide examples of previous work demonstrating drone-based survey expertise.
The salary range for this position in San Diego, CA is $70,000 - $85,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
