We are seeking an upbeat and professional Junior Interior Designer for a project-based role in the Potomac, Maryland area. This position involves working closely with the principal of a small boutique interior design firm (based in Palm Beach) on all phases of design projects and supporting office operations at the Maryland job site.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent listening skills, be proactive, follow directions effectively, and be comfortable with a hybrid work arrangement. This includes working on-site a minimum of two days per week, independently and via Zoom. Additional on-site days may be required when the Principal is in Maryland (initially, approximately twice per month, increasing during the staging phase). The Principal will conduct work sessions both remotely (via Zoom) and at the job site in Maryland.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Site Visits: Accompany Principal on site visits, documenting notes, measurements, and photos.
Technical Drawings: Draft floor plans, elevations, details, furniture plans, and custom furniture drawings in AutoCAD.
Sourcing: Research materials, products, furniture, finishes, accessories, lighting, and hardware.
Presentation Development: Contribute to design presentations (concepts, material/finish boards, specs), including client storyboards and other presentation materials, primarily using InDesign and Photoshop.
On-Site Assistance: Assist at site visits, client/vendor meetings, deliveries, installations, and photoshoots.
Office Support: Contribute to general design business upkeep, including developing/implementing office processes and providing general designer assistance.
The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- BFA in Interior Design, or similar discipline
- At least 3-5 years of interior design office experience
- Experienced in all aspects of procurement: sourcing, inquiring, researching, and purchasing materials, furnishings, and accessories from showrooms (e.g., WDC and surrounding areas) and digital resources.
- Have a basic knowledge of FF&E Specification and construction
- Dependable with excellent communication skills
- Create project mood boards
Skills:
- Well-versed in both Mac and Windows platforms of Auto-CAD
- Photoshop
- InDesign
- 3D modeling program (sketchup, rhino, 3D max, or similar)
- Google Drive
Must have own laptop and reliable transportation to get to job site when necessary.
Pay to commensurate with experience
