JOB SUMMARY
Deputy District Clerk
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping.
- The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
- Unavoidable hazards refer to the conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* High School Diploma or equivalent.* MUST have good computer and general office experience* Attention to detail* Dependable* Good penmanship* Excellent telephone and customer service skills* Able to meet the public and thrive in a very busy office.* MUST be able to multitask and work well with others
- Utilize electronic case management system;
- Capture audio of legal proceedings using professional-level audio recording multi-channel digital systems, mixers, and microphones, while simultaneously making detailed, legible, synced notes, pursuant to Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure 13.1 and 13.2.
- Assign separate, discrete sound channels to case participants to avoid party overlap in speech and ensure voice isolation. Monitors and adjusts mixer/recording levels as need to ensure a clear record.
- Maintains an accurate record of all trial proceedings and hearings; compiles trial and hearing worksheets and exhibits.
- Coordinates deadlines for all Appellate Records, as applicable.
- Performs as a liaison for all requested transcripts of hearings, as applicable.
- Reconciles daily court activity and decision of court hearings.
- Responsible for taking down notes in proceedings and creating log notes of speaker identification and key words.
- Logs and files all exhibits with the Clerk of Court.
- Maintains and updates computer data and software.
- Maintains records according to retention guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Degree.
- Must be able to type at least 50 words per minute.
- Proficient in common office software, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be adept at computer software and technology, its maintenance, upkeep and operation.
- Team player - willing to train with, sub in for, and assist office personnel when needed.
- Ability to work Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Willingness to work in a fast paced, very busy trial court.
- Must pass Criminal Background check.
- Must have ability to develop an expertise on multi-channel digital court recording software and equipment.
- Willingness to speak up to ensure an accurate record.
