Controller

Location: Minneapolis, MN In Person, with remote flexibility / Salary: $140k - $175k, plus bonus

Summary

Reporting to the CFO, this is a critical position within the organization as we need someone who can oversee all financial protocols from G/L management to monthly reporting. Ideally we would like to hire an individual who has experience working for a consumer/retail based company and understands the requirements needed to work successfully in a fast paced, entrepreneurial organization. Hair Cuttery is looking to hire an experienced Controller to support the Company's day-to-day accounting and administrative needs under a new ownership, as well as to participate in the evaluation of future business opportunities and capital structure.

The ideal candidate must be someone who has the initiative and curiosity to constantly seek solutions along with opportunities to improve the functions required for consistent and profitable hair salons services and retail products. We need a "hands on" individual, assuming the responsibility to constantly improve the approach, processes and team to move forward.

Responsibilities

G/L Accounting

• Cash flow management.
• Assist in the development of business plans and financial forecasts.
• Accounting for and collection of Accounts Receivable.
• Accounting for Accounts Payable.
• Accounting for Fixed Assets, inventory, and prepaid expenses.
• Payroll and travel expenses.
• Compliance with tax laws.
• Monthly reconciliations to plan.
• Administration of insurance, administrative contracts/services, payroll services, bank relationships, actuaries, and outside accounting firms.
• Oversight of inventory, physical stock, and inventory valuation.
• Follow up on sales, inventory, gross margins, budget deviations, costs, and investments by brand and the company as a whole.
• Maintenance of the chart of accounts and master data in the accounting program.
• Manage financial and logistical aspects of vendors domestically.

Reporting

• Monthly reporting of financial results to Management.
• Actual to Budget and prior year variance reporting
• Quarterly and annual reporting of financial results to banks.
• Provide accurate accounting information to the Management team for further action, such as problem solving, business strategy, and development.
• Prepare annual/statutory reports in co-operation with an outside Accounting Firm.
• Communicate and report to auditors and authorities (taxes, etc.)

Internal Control Procedures

• Maintain strong control environments and procedures for the company.
• Auditing of compliance with company policies, procedures, and instructions.
• Sharing of ideas, best practices, templates, etc., which can facilitate the admin work and business overview.
• Specific control activities at the request of Management.

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Building and oversight of annual G&A and CAPEX budgets
• Active participation with FP&A in buildout and variance reporting of salon-level budgets and actual results

Requirements

• 7 years of experience in Accounting
• CPA required.
• Experience in PE-backed environment; comfortable with resource constraints and willing to do more with less
• Familiarity with e-commerce, Direct-to-consumer, and Sales business models.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with Sage or other financial systems.
• Must be very organized, detail-oriented, and possess exceptional time management
• skills.
• Entrepreneurial and self-motivated attitude.
• Comfortable working in a lean structure with a very small team.
• Excellent communication skills. Able to convince, but also able to listen and
• understand.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex issues in a simple manner.
• Highly motivated, self-starter who manages projects end-to-end and has a demonstrated track record of getting results, organizing, and prioritizing deadlines.
• Ability to multitask several important priorities simultaneously.
