Brief Description
Duties
Tutors provide academic support, in a kind and patient manner, for a variety of subject areas at HCC. All tutors work with students on site in the Learning Support Center.
Special Skills Needed
Tutors must demonstrate proficiency in the content area(s) for which they apply, as well as the ability to convey their knowledge to students at all skill levels. All LSC tutors must have earned an A or B in the content area to be tutored (or have justified equivalent experience), along with obtaining an instructor reference for the content area.
All tutors must be able to tutor one of the major subject areas: math, science, and/or writing. Additional subjects such as engineering, business, or foreign language are a plus.
Applicants will be evaluated through an interview process that may include skills testing and role play. Candidates wishing to tutor writing must also submit an academic writing sample.

MUST BE A CURRENT HCC STUDENT FOR THE SUMMER AND/OR FALL 2026 SEMESTER.
MUST BE ENROLLED IN AT LEAST 6 CREDITS.
UNLESS FIRST-SEMESTER STUDENT, MUST HAVE ATTAINED A 2.0 SEMESTER GPA DURING THE LAST SEMESTER ATTENDED.
