Description:As a full-time Accounting Tech at HFCO, you will be responsible for maintaining a professional relationship with business clients while performing day-to-day bookkeeping duties. Successful candidates must be motivated self-starters who can get the job done quickly, accurately and with little supervision. Some local travel may be required. This role will support both our for-profit and nonprofit teams, offering broad exposure and meaningful client impact.Accounting Tech Responsibilities Consistently and accurately code transactions to multiple dimensions (ex. account, class, customer/funder, project/sub-customer, division/location, etc.) and provide proper descriptive memos.Reconcile bank, credit card, and other financial accounts, inspect source documents and confirm they support the business purpose and proper coding of the transactions.Maintain clean bank feeds and resolve common issues (duplicate entries, unmatched items, missing payee details, feed disconnects).Assist with month-end close as needed by updating close checklists, preparing routine journal entries from templates and similar tasks as assigned. Support accounts payable processes as assigned: enter bills, maintain vendor records, route items for approval, and prepare payment batches for client authorization.Support accounts receivable processes as assigned: generate invoices, apply payments, and assist with A/R aging follow-up lists.Assist with posting payroll entries (or validating integrations) and reconcile payroll clearing accounts.Gather and organize information needed for compliance-related items and assist with preparation (e.g., 1099 support, sales tax support, grant/expense support for nonprofits, etc.) as directed.Maintain strong documentation and audit trail standards: attach invoices/receipts in the accounting system, keep organized client folders, and follow naming conventions.Use firm tools and templates consistently and contribute to continuous process improvement through documented feedback.Assist clients’ auditors by gathering source documents as requested and responding to questions about transactions.Other duties as assigned.Client Service & Responsiveness Expectations Communicate professionally and responsively with clients and internal team members; acknowledge requests timely, follow up on missing items, and escalate urgent issues promptly.Maintain confidentiality in all client interactions, following firm standards for email/Teams etiquette and secure handling of client data.Requirements:Qualifications and Skills High school diploma required; accounting coursework or certificate preferred2 years of bookkeeping or accounting support experience required2 years Microsoft Excel experience required2 years QuickBooks accounting software experience required Experience using Sage Intacct is a plusSolid understanding of core bookkeeping functions: A/P, A/R, bank/credit card reconciliations, and general ledger codingFamiliarity with payroll and sales tax functions is a plusStrong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentAble to identify discrepancies, document findings, and make corrections with appropriate support and reviewProfessional communication skills and ability to provide timely, client-service oriented follow-upBenefits:Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.Health, dental, and vision insurance.Employer paid life insurance (2x salary)Monthly cell phone stipend of $50401(k) plan and 50% employer match up to 10% of salary - eligible to contribute first day of employmentHSA, FSA, 529 plans, and Supplemental Disability plansTuition, professional dues, and fees reimbursementClient and employee referral bonus programWork/ Life Balance MATTERS!Office closed on Fridays in the summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day Generous PTO days and paid holidaysCasual attire and atmosphere Employee Assistance ProgramAssistance in CPA exam prepWe feed you (even if you aren’t hungry) Company Values and Culture:Looking for a place where open communication, streamlined processes and accountability matter?
