Cyber Security Engineer – Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Cyber Security Engineer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The position is ideal for candidates with strong technical expertise in cybersecurity, systems architecture, and industrial control systems who are passionate about protecting next-generation energy technology.
The Cyber Security Engineer will design, implement, and maintain secure digital environments that protect Hadron Energy’s systems, data, and reactor technologies. This individual will play a central role in developing cybersecurity infrastructure across both IT and OT (Operational Technology) systems, ensuring compliance with federal and nuclear cybersecurity standards.
You will work cross-functionally with software, electrical, controls, and regulatory teams to design secure architectures, manage access control systems, and defend against evolving cyber threats. The role combines hands-on technical engineering with strategic oversight—ensuring that every layer of Hadron’s digital infrastructure is safe, resilient, and compliant.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement secure architectures for enterprise, operational, and control systems across Hadron’s network
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity frameworks aligned with NIST 800-53, NIST CSF, NRC, and DOE cybersecurity standards
- Configure, manage, and monitor security systems, including firewalls, SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and encryption protocols
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk mitigation planning for both IT and OT assets
- Collaborate with engineering teams to secure instrumentation & controls (I&C), reactor monitoring systems, and industrial automation equipment
- Establish and enforce access controls, identity management, and network segmentation for sensitive environments
- Implement secure software development and deployment practices, supporting DevSecOps workflows
- Support incident response, forensic investigation, and recovery planning to ensure system resilience
- Document cybersecurity policies, network diagrams, and compliance reports for internal and regulatory review
- Stay current on emerging cyber threats, technologies, and regulations relevant to critical infrastructure and nuclear systems
- Partner with the Compliance and Regulatory teams to support audits and certification processes
Qualifications & Skillsets
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
- 5 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering or network/system security, preferably in energy, defense, or critical infrastructure sectors
- Strong understanding of industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA security, and operational technology (OT) network architecture
- Proficiency with security tools such as Splunk, Wireshark, Nessus, Metasploit, CrowdStrike, or equivalent platforms
- Deep knowledge of NIST, ISO 27001, and NRC cybersecurity requirements
- Hands-on experience with network design, firewall configuration, VPNs, and endpoint security
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure security (AWS, Azure) and virtualization environments
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CISM, GICSP, or CompTIA Security are preferred
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, high-stakes environment with cross-disciplinary teams
- Passion for cybersecurity, advanced technology, and contributing to the protection of clean-energy innovation
Salary : $120,000 - $250,000
