The Patient Safety Sitter works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Assists the professional nursing staff by providing direct observation of patients with behavioral changes. Maintains a safe environment and engages the patient in diversional activities. Reports any changes in patient behavior to the nurse.

Responsibilties
The Patient Safety Sitter works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Assists the professional nursing staff by providing direct observation of patients with behavioral changes. Maintains a safe environment and engages the patient in diversional activities. Reports any changes in patient behavior to the nurse.
- Responsible for the safety of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse
- Observes patient status for changes in behavior and reports all observations to the Registered Nurse
- Ensures patient safety by providing a safe environment, observes the patient's environments for safety risks and takes necessary steps to reduce the risk.
- Applies appropriate interventions: Observe, redirect, diversional activities.
- Must be able to work in situations with isolation precautions.
- Ensures positive patient and team interactions by promoting HMH core beliefs and standards of behavior.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy and dignity.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs (or in progress).
- Previous experience in a setting with direct patient contact.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 60 days of entering position.
