THE POSITION
Under the direction of a school administrator or designee, supervises and monitors students in all areas of the school site before school, during school, lunch/breakfast and recess, and after school to ensure a safe, clean and secure environment; some positions supervise and monitor children while their parents take classes at adult schools or attend school meetings, and performs related work as required. Incumbents in this classification typically work at the elementary, middle, and adult schools.
CURRENT OPENING: There are currently multiple part-time openings. Individuals in this job typically work 1 to 3 hours per day, for 10 months a year. Salary placement will be on Range 5 of the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 2 ($17.15 per hour) of this salary range.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The classification specification does not describe all duties performed by all incumbents within the class. This summary provides examples of typical tasks performed in this classification.
- Monitors and supervises children in a variety of settings (e.g. adult schools, cafeteria, indoor assembly areas, outdoor eating areas, halls, locker rooms, restrooms, playground areas, around buses or other vehicles), and at other assigned locations.
- Oversees and circulates throughout assigned areas to enforce safety and discipline rules on school property.
- Assists children to organize and find appropriate indoor and/or outdoor activities.
- Encourages children to follow rules and observe fundamental courtesies (e.g., good eating habits, leaving areas neat and clean) in a variety of settings.
- Maintains control and safety of children participating in various activities.
- Monitors behaviors and reports problems to staff according to approved procedures.
- Works closely with staff in alleviating behavior problems in the activities in which children are engaged.
- Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards to the appropriate school administrator.
- Communicates with school administrator and staff regarding observations and incidents of specific children.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
- Attends and participates in meetings, in-service trainings, workshops and conferences as needed.
- Writes incident report of children as requested.
- Participates and assists staff with emergency drills as needed.
- Assists in the clean-up of the eating areas as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency is desirable.
Experience:
Experience working with students or children is desirable.
Special:
- A valid First Aid certificate issued by a recognized training program is desirable.
- A valid Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate issued by a recognized training program is desirable.

- Maintain poise, and exercise tact and good judgment.
- Work under minimum direct supervision.
- Understand the importance of attendance, punctuality, and follow through.
- Complete and understand simple forms and records.
- Use the computer for basic Internet browsing for the purpose of completing online trainings.
