What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Editor, Little Brown Books for Young Readers, TEMP position at Hachette Book Group?
SUMMARY:
Hachette Book Group is seeking a temporary production editor to oversee around 10 to 12 titles per season for Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, an award-winning trade list of picture books as well as middle-grade, young-adult, and new-adult fiction and nonfiction titles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Traffic books through copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and printing to meet deadlines and ensure overall quality.
• Work closely with various in-house departments including Editorial, Design, and Production to create and monitor production schedules and anticipate and resolve problems.
• Assign, manage, and review the work of freelance copy editors and proofreaders throughout the production stages from manuscript through final files.
• Copyedit and proofread jacket and cover materials from original copy through final proof.
• Style electronic manuscripts in MS Word in preparation for copyediting.
• Perform ebook quality review.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Relevant work experience, preferably in trade publishing.
• Strong copyediting and proofreading skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style.
• Strong MS Word skills and knowledge of electronic copyediting and PDF markup. Knowledge of electronic styling is a plus.
• Spanish language and writing experience is a plus.
• Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines by prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
