What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Repair Technician position at Habitat for Humanity York County?
Habitat for Humanity York County is seeking a skilled, hands-on technician to provide essential home repairs as part of our Aging in Place Program for low-income senior homeowners. The Aging in Place program helps older adults remain safe and independent in their homes by making minimally disruptive but high-impact improvements. Our new Executive Director wants to grow the current Aging in Place program to Critical Home Repair program.
We are looking for someone with construction or carpentry experience who enjoys variety in their work, problem-solving on site, and can interact easily with homeowners. We are looking for someone with the skill to help grow the program into a powerful Critical Home Repair program with the goal of improving safety and quality of life for York County residents. This person may also spend one day a week working with volunteers on home construction.
roles & responsibilities
Perform Home Repairs & Modifications
This work includes but is not limited to:
- Porch and deck repairs
- Ramp and step construction
- Storm door installation
- Installation of grab bars, railings, and other accessibility features
- Weatherization and energy efficiency improvements
Project Planning & Execution
- Develop a work plan and budget for each project
- Apply for building permits as needed
- Ensure quality, safety, and compliance with plans, building code, and Habitat for Humanity York County’s standards
- Keep accurate financial records for each project, including submitting all receipts sorted by job number.
On-Site Operations
- Travel to project sites across York County using a company-provided 2024 pickup truck.
- Maintain communication with program staff and homeowners using a company-provided phone.
- Work independently and problem-solve with minimal supervision.
- Ensure all necessary materials are ordered and scheduled appropriately.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and injury-free worksite.
Client Engagement
- Provide timely communication and scheduling with clients
- Help clients feel valued, communicate understanding, and ensure they understand what work will be completed.
- Deliver a high-quality finished product while fostering a positive experience.
Reporting & Compliance
- Complete timely intake and reporting on each project, communicating data to the Program Manager.
- Adhere to OSHA and Habitat for Humanity International safety policies and practices.
- Complete Habitat’s “Competent Person” safety training within 60 days of hire.
Work on our Home Build site one day per week
- Under the direction of our Construction Manager, guide the work of our construction volunteers on the home build site.
