Construction Helper

JOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION SUMMARY: The Construction Helper is a working position. The position utilizes personal construction skills to construct homes, and is responsible for following the supervision, safety, instruction/training provided by the Site Supervisor to ensure daily quality of work at a new build or repair site. This position fosters an environment of learning and team building for site volunteers and partner families.Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/TasksShadow and work alongside Site Supervisors to build new HFHSTW homes as per house plans, specifications and quality requirementsExpand construction skills by accepting and applying guidance and training by Site Supervisors and Construction Director.Maintain a positive and engaging attitude to help promote a work site environment that contributes to a successful experience for volunteers and partner family members that encourages them to return and to serve as good ambassadors for HFHSTWAs experience allows, assist with training all volunteers and family partner members on construction techniques and HFHSTW safety standards each day they are on the worksiteAssist with home repair/rehab/warranty projects, as necessary, including scheduling and supervising subcontractors to ensure a quality work productConstantly evaluate work site safety to ensure safe work practices and re-train if necessaryUse responsibly and maintain all tools, equipment and vehiclesAdditional duties as assignedRequired QualificationsCommitment to and willingness to advocate for Habitat’s missionA commitment to HFHSTW’s Strategic PlanRespect, promote and safeguard the rights and dignities of all people, without discrimination or bullying of any kindProfessional construction appearance – maintain clothing free of holes, stains, etc.Capacity to develop and maintain successful and productive relationships with partner families, volunteers, Board of Directors, vendors, and co-workersAbility to treat all individuals with the respect, courtesy and dignity that reflects the mission of HFHSTWExcellent communication, listening and interpersonal skillsWillingness & patience to work with unskilled volunteersAbility to excel within in a team environmentAbility to work in the United StatesEducation/Experience Requirements High School Diploma/GED required, some college preferredConstruction or OSHA certification/training preferred1 year of construction, renovation or home repair experience required Physical RequirementsAbility to communicate and exchange informationAbility to routinely lift and/or move up to 50lbs – unassistedAbility to routinely lift over 50lbs with assistanceAbility to bend for extended periods of timeAbility to stand for extended periods of timeAbility to crawl for extended periods of timeAbility to walk for extended periods of timeAbility to reach & pullAbility to use fingers to type, grab & manipulateAbility to climbAbility to work in adverse weather conditionsAbility to work at levels over 6’ high for extended periods of timeAbility to work in small or confined spacesGood eye to hand coordinationGood sense of balanceREQUIREMENTSABOUT THE COMPANYHFHSTW MISSION STATEMENT: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
