Summary

We are looking to fill a full-time position for our ReStore operations to help with the donation pickup business model. Hours should be consistently 37.50 per week. This position will be moving, loading and unloading of furniture/appliances/merchandise, and other customer relations duties, tasks and communications.

General Statement:

Scope of work will include donation loading and unloading and assisting with all facets of retail operations.

All ReStore Associates are responsible in assisting with general ReStore operations, while providing for a pleasant customer experience. The ReStore Associate must be willing to adhere to and express the mission of Habitat for Humanity and maintain a Christian working experience.

Detailed instructions are given at each new assignment. As the person becomes familiar with procedures, more unsupervised judgment and decision-making duties are given. Their work is subject to review as needed by the ReStore Director, or designate, at any point in time, regardless of length of tenure.

Typical Working Hours

Monday thru Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. for the first week of the time payroll period, Followed by Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri and Saturday the second week of the period. Must be able to work during the week, as well as Saturday. Most shifts will be 7.5 to 8.5 hours, except for Saturday, which will be a full day. The Donation Pickup position will work within the same hours of operation as the store.

Typical Daily Workload for Donation Pickups

Donation Pickups are performed a minimum of 4 days a week and at times, dependent on the days of the week a holiday falls on, may be as high as 5 days a week.

There are a minimum of three pickups scheduled per day, and at times may be up to five, dependent on the quantity of items and drive time.

Overview of Workday

The Habitat Donation Pickup Team performs work in the operation of a vehicle to assure safe and efficient transportation to and from destinations for donation pickups. Additionally, the Team is responsible for vehicle appearance, maintenance schedule and ensuring the vehicle is fully equipped with all necessary items to perform tasks. The Team also ensures all safety equipment is up to date and vehicle has all necessary license/registration paperwork on all vehicles.

The pickup team goes to the first stop, introduces themselves, examines donated items as acceptable, loads acceptable items, leaves donation receipt then goes to next destination.

The team continues with the remaining appointments for the day in the same manner as outlined above until completion.

There may be times due to size or quantity of content, the Lead determines it necessary to return to the store between appointments.

The Team is to ensure every pickup is done in an expedient manner and time is not lost to unproductive tasks or meandering.

Once all appointments are completed (typically mid-afternoon) the Team is to coordinate with the store manager or designate to commence on determining which donated items can be brought to the sales floor for immediate sale, and assist in getting those items to the sales floor.

The Team would also use the afternoon hours to contact the next scheduled days appointments for confirmation.

The above outline of the typical workday overview is by no means all inclusive. There are additional items/tasks required for the work to be considered completed.

Requirements of Employment

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a current, valid and in good-standing Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check.
  • Must take a pre-employment drug screening within 24 hours of offer of employment.
  • 2 years’ experience driving 12’ to 26’ delivery vehicles in residential environments.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with associates and customers. Good oral and written communication skills. Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions.
  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation.
  • Ability to read maps, follow specific delivery directions and instructions, determine cost efficient routes and time efficient scheduling of donation pickups/deliveries.
  • Ability to operate equipment in assigned area including computer, forklift, pallet jack, lawn equipment, furniture dollies, ratchet straps, bungee cords, electric lift, etc.
  • Must be able to negotiate stairs while carrying heavy objects, climb in/out of box truck un-assisted, ability to tolerate hot/humid/cold conditions.

· Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.

Desirable Attributes

  • Preferred experience handling and moving furniture or similar.
  • Willing to have a flexible schedule.
  • Willing to be trained on forklift operation and safety.

Additional Information / Work Conditions & Environment / Additional Assigned Tasks

· Work is performed in a retail/warehouse/on-location environment, up to 50% of work may be done outdoors, requires the ability to operate a hand truck, pallet jack, furniture dollies and if necessary, a forklift. Proper training and instructions will be provided.

· Warehouse space organization/cleanliness including exterior loading dock area

· Occasionally, when requested, to assist with maintaining the exterior of the building and grounds.

· This is a physically demanding job.
