Position Summary:
The Director of Development is responsible for designing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive fundraising strategy that advances Habitat for Humanity of Racine & Kenosha Counties’ mission to build homes, communities, and hope. This role oversees all philanthropic revenue generation, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, special events, and donor stewardship. The Director of Development works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and key community partners to expand financial support and increase public awareness of Habitat’s impact in Racine and Kenosha Counties.
This is a strategic and hands-on leadership position that drives the affiliate’s long-term sustainability and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy & Leadership (20% of time)
- Develop and execute an annual development plan with clear goals, timelines, and metrics aligned with Habitat’s strategic priorities.
- Lead and manage all fundraising programs, including:
- Individual giving
- Major and planned gifts
- Corporate giving and sponsorships
- Grant identification, writing, and reporting
- Special events (including the Building Hope Gala)
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects to strengthen long-term relationships and increase philanthropic investment.
- Support the CEO & Board of Directors in their fundraising responsibilities and provide regular development reports.
Donor Stewardship & Relationship Management (20% of time)
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of major donors and prospects.
- Oversee donor recognition programs and ensure timely, accurate gift acknowledgments.
- Develop and maintain systems for donor engagement, including site visits, communications, and personalized stewardship activities.
- Regularly meet with prospective donors and partners, building relationships and strengthening Habitat’s network.
Grant & Event Management (30% of time)
- Identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
- Lead or oversee the preparation of grant proposals and ensure timely reporting and compliance with all grant requirements.
- Track grant deadlines, deliverables, and fundraising progress.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for all fundraising events, including the annual gala, donor tours, Women Build, and Community Build.
- Work with staff, volunteers, and vendors to ensure professional and mission-aligned experiences.
Data & Systems Management (20% of time)
- Oversee donor database (DonorPerfect & BlueWave), ensuring accurate records, segmentation, reporting, and analysis.
- Create and monitor fundraising dashboards, forecasting, and performance metrics.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers who support fundraising efforts.
Organizational Leadership (10% of time)
- Work collaboratively with construction, family services, ReStore, and volunteer management teams to integrate mission impact into donor engagement.
- Represent Habitat at community events, presentations, and media opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned by the CEO
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in philanthropy and/or fundraising certificates preferred.
- Nonprofit fundraising experience required, including major gift solicitation.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.
- Experience with donor CRM software and data-driven fundraising strategies.
- Strong relationship-building abilities with donors, partners, and community leaders.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strategic thinker with strong planning and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and accountability.
- Knowledge of Racine and Kenosha communities is a plus.
- Familiarity with Habitat for Humanity’s ministry, values, and brand standards preferred.
Work Environment
- Reports to the CEO
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Flexible schedule with occasional evening and weekend work required for events and donor activities.
- Travel within Racine and Kenosha Counties is expected; occasional out-of-state travel may be required for conferences and trainings.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs for event support occasionally.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 and is commensurate with experience.
