We’re looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Estimator to support our Home Preservation Program, which helps preserve existing homes for local families. Job Overview
The Estimator plays a vital role in Habitat OC’s Home Preservation Program by conducting detailed residential assessments and developing accurate cost estimates for repair and rehabilitation projects. This role focuses on evaluating project feasibility, pricing labor and materials, and preparing detailed estimates that align with program budgets and funding requirements.
This position is analytical and documentation-focused, supporting program execution through precise estimating and scope definition.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Estimating
- Conduct thorough property assessments to identify repair, safety, accessibility, and code compliance needs.
- Prepare itemized cost estimates for labor, materials, and subcontracted work using standardized pricing tools.
- Analyze bids and cost data to ensure pricing accuracy and value for money.
- Maintain estimating templates, pricing databases, and historical cost files.
- Support the Project Management team by providing clear and accurate documentation—not by managing site work.
Documentation & Compliance
- Produce written scope reports with supporting cost breakdowns and justifications.
- Ensure all estimates comply with HUD, CalHome, and internal cost limits.
- Maintain documentation for audits, funding compliance, and cost verification.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of residential construction techniques and estimating practices.
- Familiarity with home inspection, insurance adjusting, or safety/code assessments preferred.
- Ability to identify and document health, safety, and code issues in residential settings.
- Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Education & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in residential estimating.
- Minimum 3 years of home inspection or insurance adjusting.
- Experience identifying safety and code issues in existing homes strongly preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or degree in construction management preferred.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $72,500 per year
