Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area (HFHGC) is an ecumenical Christian non-profit organization focused on housing solutions and neighborhood revitalization that benefit families and individuals in Chattanooga through home repairs, new construction, and other direct services.


Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Construction (DOC) of HFHGC and supervising all New Construction Staff, the Superintendent oversees all new builds, working on site as required to ensure the timely and quality completion of homes (within budget) in order to create and retain permanent housing and homeownership opportunities for lower income households in the area.

 

Primary Responsibilities 


Oversees the construction process on all HFHGC builds whether single or multi-family

  • Assigns jobs as required to appropriate staff (and self)
  • Supervises all new construction staff, often leading people in on-site tasks, including staff, crew-leaders, and daily volunteers
  • Ensures that all safety guidelines are followed on-site and that necessary safety training is provided to all staff and volunteers
  • Maintains clean, orderly, and secure job sites in a manner that reflects a commitment to good stewardship and community partnerships
  • Establishes and follows build schedules for all projects
  • Manages subcontractors and holds them accountable to quality, budget, and timeline as quoted
  • Orders and tracks all needed supplies for each job
  • Ensures that all projects are high quality, energy efficient, low-cost, and built to code
  • Manages the budget for all builds
  • Establishes punch-lists and completes pre-close/post-close (warranty) repairs as needed with homeowners and future homeowners
  • Creates a positive and encouraging work atmosphere


General Management

·       Manages multiple projects and staff at a time, assigning daily, weekly, and monthly duties and delegating projects as appropriate

·       Provides Construction Office with necessary records to properly maintain project files

·       Assists with reporting and budget tracking as needed for each project

·       Oversees, maintains, and organizes tool and equipment inventory, ensuring necessary tools and supplies are available, serviced, and properly secured

·       Provides support to and fills in as needed with construction jobs in the Critical Home Repair Program

·       Performs and oversees the performance of physical plant maintenance and repairs


Materials Procurement and Vendors

  • Assists in procuring construction materials and subcontractors through a competitive bid process
  • Procures donations of materials and labor through HFHI and area vendors
  • Prepares monthly program status reports and other reports as needed  
  • Manages the program’s budget and tracks expenditures  

 

Required Qualifications

·       Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

·       Supervisory and project management skills; construction experience along with a knowledge and understanding of building codes, building materials, and building processes

·       Skill and knowledge of proper uses of machinery and equipment commonly used in residential construction

·       Experience directing and managing residential construction projects of various types

·       Computer proficiency with project management software and database experience

·       Ability to navigate job sites and construction areas and consistently lift up to 50 pounds

·       Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles

·       Background check and drug screen required

·       Commitment to and belief in the vision/mission of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga


Qualifications Preferred

·       Construction management degree or project management credentialing

·       3 years of experience as Project Manager or Site Superintendent
