Habitat Detroit is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Grants Manager to take the lead in managing all aspects of our institutional grant portfolio, with a heavy emphasis on compliance and stewardship for state and federal funding. This role is crucial for securing and maintaining critical funding that supports our mission of providing affordable homes and services. The Grants Manager will ensure the integrity and compliance of our grant awards, reporting directly to the Director of Philanthropy.
Roles and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Grants Manager will focus on grant lifecycle management and compliance, including:
Grant Compliance and Reporting
- Serve as the primary lead for state and federal grant compliance, ensuring all grant-funded activities, expenditures, and documentation adhere to grantor regulations and guidelines.
- Manage the full grant lifecycle for all institutional funding sources, including government agencies, foundations, and corporations.
- Prepare and submit all required progress reports, financial reconciliation reports, and final reports to grantors on a timely basis, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive grants calendar to track all application, reporting, and compliance deadlines.
- Work in close partnership with the accounting department to monitor grant budgets, ensure accurate tracking of restricted funds, and facilitate financial audits.
- Hold all relevant team members accountable for proper use of funds, reporting deadlines, and processes and procedures related to each grant.
Grant Application and Strategy
- Lead the preparation, writing, and submission of high-quality grant proposals in collaboration with program and leadership teams, with a strong focus on government grants.
- Research and identify new federal and state funding opportunities aligned with organizational needs and mission.
- Maintain comprehensive grant files and documentation, ensuring all necessary records are accurate, organized, and readily accessible for review.
Philanthropy Support
- Offer limited administrative support for major fundraising campaigns and events as requested by the Director of Philanthropy.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in nonprofit grant management or a similar role.
- Demonstrated, significant experience managing and ensuring compliance for complex state and federal grants (e.g., HUD, CDBG, FHLB, or similar government funding).
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Finance) or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and experience with a donor or grant-management database system.
- Must be based in or willing to commute to the Detroit office and work a hybrid schedule.
