The Construction Coordinator will be responsible for performing all hands-on construction tasks, assisting with the affiliate’s construction and repair programs in a way that utilizes staff, volunteer labor and materials to produce quality homes in a safe and affordable manner. This position will be responsible for scheduling, planning, procurement, working with subcontractors, site management and working with volunteers.

Job Duties:

Construction Preparation:

  • Work with the Construction Director to identify potential building sites and/or assess repair projects.
  • Suggest potential advantageous building practices and material cost savings opportunities to the Construction Director.
  • Oversee all site preparation and layout.
  • Restock and maintain tool trailers as required and deliver to build sites.

Materials and Labor Procurement

  • Ensure timely clear communication with contractors and vendors.
  • Develop good working relationships with contractors and vendors.
  • Responsible for ordering the correct quantity of materials and ensuring materials are delivered on time.
  • Responsible for delivering material from the HFH-QC warehouse.

Construction Oversight:

  • Manages the supervision of job sites on each designated workday and works to ensure construction is accomplished in accordance with the approved permits and plans.
  • Supervise professional and volunteer construction personnel.
  • Train volunteers and partner families about construction tasks and appropriate safety measures.
  • Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to apprise them of volunteer and skill needs.
  • Assist with scheduling of volunteer groups/meals.
  • Always maintain a safe working environment by abiding by all Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities and OSHA safety standards.

Construction Procedure:

  • Maintain quality of construction in accordance with local, state, federal, and Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities building standards.
  • Order inspections and always ensure that work meets applicable code.
  • Performs all homeowner warranty complaints and repairs in accordance with HFHQC’s Home Ownership agreement.
  • Attend groundbreakings and home dedications as required.

Management of Information:

  • Attend and participate in weekly coordination meetings.
  • Be familiar with HFH-QC’s volunteer management program.
  • Be familiar with HFH-QC’s policies regarding program guidelines and sweat equity requirements.

General Maintenance:

  • Assist with managing vacant lots owned by Habitat.
  • Help keep the warehouse organized and clean.
  • Assist with vehicle/trailer and equipment/tool maintenance.
  • Assist with maintaining HFH-QC office/warehouse building.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Represent Habitat professionally in the community.
  • Assist with and support agency events.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Valid state issued Driver’s License required.
  • 5 years prior experience in residential building construction required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to plan and coordinate work independently balancing multiple work demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exhibit integrity in work product and in interactions with clients and other staff.
  • Ability to hold oneself accountable for actions, successes, and failures.
  • Ability to be flexible in the work environment and willing and able to adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Must have a positive, enthusiastic attitude that promotes successful collaboration and teamwork.
  • Possess a professional demeanor that represents the mission and strategic goals and objectives of the affiliate.

Physical Requirements: Primarily walking, standing, lifting, exerting up to 75 lbs. of force frequently.

Physical Demands: Primary working position-standing, with frequent walking, stooping, crouching, and kneeling, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping, talking-speaking clearly, hearing-conversation, and seeing-near

Work/Environment: High noise level consistent with a construction environment. Travel within Iowa/Illinois and other states as required for business meetings, education events, etc.

Personal/Physiological: Interaction with people, working around people, delegating work, and holding oneself and others accountable for meeting deadlines and finishing work, planning of activities, making judgments on a regular basis, frequent changes in duties and volume of work, intra-organizational and client communication.
