Construction Project Manager

Habitat for Humanity 7 Rivers Maine
Bath, ME Full Time
POSTED ON 8/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/1/2026

About the Role

This is a hands-on construction leadership position at Habitat for Humanity 7 Rivers. The majority of the work, roughly 70-80% of your time, will be running our Critical Home Repair program: assessing homes, developing scopes of work, coordinating with volunteers and subcontractors, and seeing projects through from first visit to final walkthrough. When we have an active home build, you'll shift some of your attention there to support site management and construction quality.

This role requires someone who is equally comfortable on a job site and at a kitchen table with a homeowner. You'll be the face of our repair program for the families we serve, and the day-to-day operational lead for the volunteers and tradespeople doing the work.

What You'll Do

Critical Home Repair (70-80%)

  • Conduct home assessments with volunteer team leads to identify repair needs across roofing, structural, electrical, plumbing, heating, weatherization, and accessibility
  • Develop detailed work scopes, cost estimates, and construction schedules within project funding limits
  • Prepare and submit permit applications, schedule inspections, and maintain certificates of completion
  • Order materials, manage inventory, and coordinate subcontractor bids and contracts
  • Ensure all subcontractors have W-9s, contractor's licenses, and certificates of insurance for general liability and workers' compensation on file before work begins
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for homeowners from initial assessment through project closeout
  • Schedule volunteer crews, communicate project expectations, and ensure volunteers are trained and working safely
  • Track project progress, budgets, and timelines; adjust when things change
  • Ensure all work meets building codes, Habitat quality standards, and safety requirements
  • Code all project receipts in accordance with organizational bookkeeping systems; return or account for unused materials and equipment
  • Maintain accurate project documentation: permits, homeowner records, volunteer logs, and safety compliance
  • Track and report key program metrics including projects completed, cost per project, and homeowner satisfaction

New Home Construction (20-30%)

  • Provide on-site construction leadership during active home builds
  • Lead and supervise volunteer crews of varying skill levels
  • Coordinate schedules with subcontractors and internal staff
  • Maintain job site safety, organization, and cleanliness
  • Ensure work is completed to Habitat's quality and code standards
  • Maintain certification as a Habitat for Humanity "Competent Person"
  • Identify and assess potential build lots, evaluate site conditions and construction feasibility, and make recommendations to the board on land acquisition and pricing

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3-5 years of residential construction experience with demonstrated ability to manage projects from assessment through completion
  • Working knowledge of building codes, permitting, and inspection processes in Maine
  • Experience managing subcontractors, including bid solicitation and contract oversight
  • Experience leading volunteers or crews with mixed skill levels
  • Strong organizational skills; you'll be managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites across our service area
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and able to perform physical tasks including climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Experience with residential repair or rehabilitation programs, not just new construction
  • Background in a nonprofit or community-service construction setting
  • Familiarity with aging-in-place modifications and accessibility work
  • Degree or certification in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field (we'll take demonstrated experience over credentials for the right person)
