We’re backed by Y Combinator (X25) and work in person at our office in El Segundo, just south of the Los Angeles Airport close to the beach.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer Intern that is comfortable working across all parts of the stack, from user-facing tools to backend systems and cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
You’ll work alongside our founding team on critical software challenges in a fast-moving environment. As an intern, you will:
- Build real-time services and integrations that connect field devices with HABIT’s backend
- Develop tools used by operators to manage and monitor live deployments
- Bridge cloud services and edge devices to ensure reliability and seamless operation in the field
- Write production-quality code, test rigorously, and debug systems running in live environments
- Collaborate closely with team members to solve cross‑disciplinary challenges across hardware, product, and operations
- Contribute to systems that will be deployed live during your internship
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree with a graduation date between December 2025 and June 2026.
- 3 months of work/internship experience in the technology sector
- Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, C , or another modern programming language
- Comfort working in collaborative codebases, testing, and debugging complex systems
- Ability to work across the stack
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with cloud services, APIs, or containerization (e.g., AWS, GCP, Docker)
- Experience with distributed systems, data pipelines, or live monitoring tools
- Interest in building software for hardware‑integrated products or real‑world deployments
- Contributions to open‑source projects or significant personal projects
Additional Requirements
- This position is 100% on-site in El Segundo, CA — no remote option available

- Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as needed to hit milestones
Internship Information
- Duration is flexible (August start date is preferred, with potential for extension or return offers)
