What are the responsibilities and job description for the PREVENTION SPECIALIST position at Habilitative Systems Inc?
The Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing a wide array of culturally competent, recovery oriented, trauma sensitive, and direct engagement services. The target population served by the Prevention Specialist is at-risk youth, 11-24 years of age from Austin, North Lawndale, East Garfield Park, and West Garfield Park, referred from the court systems, schools and community-based organizations and residents.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive prevention services as indicated in the Prevention Work Plan, generating, and ensuring a required participants each fiscal year.
- Assess participant risk using the Risk and Protective Factors Checklist V.3, the Ohio Mental Health Consumer Outcomes System, Functioning, and Satisfaction Scales and the Columbia Impairment Scale.
- Administer various life skills and evidence-based, trauma-informed curricula.
- Provide homework assistance and tutoring; facilitate peace circles and peer juries when conflicts arise; support the youth in the development of youth-led activities and community agenda.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from High School or its equivalent, associate degree in human services or related field preferred.

Five (5) years demonstrated work experience in Social Service, Prevention or
Community Outreach.

- · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong advocacy skills and problem solving abilities, and people skills.
- · Flexibility to attend community meeting/events after hours and on weekends.
- · Possess people skills and public speaking skills.
- · Must possess a valid Driver’s License and personal vehicle.
Salary : $36,000 - $65,000
