Description

The Infant Teacher is crucial in providing a safe and stimulating environment at Generations Early Childhood Education Center to promote cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth of young children through evidence-based methods. The individual in this role ensures high-quality care and fosters a nurturing environment for young children.

 

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for following all applicable licensing regulations, policies and procedures, and any other educational requirements.
  • Teaches children through individual and small group activities.
  • Plans and implements curriculum for assigned classroom and posts weekly lesson plans.
  • Facilitates learning and development of each child using an appropriate, program-approved, and in collaboration with parent/guardian individualized learning plan.
  • Regularly performs an ongoing assessment of each child’s development throughout the year and meets with Parents/Guardians to discuss.
  • Responsible for recognizing signs of early disabling conditions (exceptional needs) and following special education procedures to implement and meet any identified needs.
  • Meets the individual needs and interests of children in relation to their cultural, social, and economic background.
  • Responsible for observation and accurately updating children’s records, including but not limited to attendance, daily logs, curriculum, child observations, and parent participation.
  • Communicate with classroom parents/guardians regarding Center activities and child development information through parent bulletin boards, Center/Classroom calendars, etc.
  • Supervises and participates in daily classroom cleaning (i.e., sweeping, mopping floors, sanitizing bathrooms, etc.) and assists in maintaining the Center facility and play yard areas.
  • Supervises and reviews the performance of teacher assistants and volunteers assigned to classes.
  • Attends scheduled meetings, trainings, and conferences as necessary.
  • Stay informed of future changes to position qualification requirements and maintain a current professional development plan with assistance from supervising staff to prepare for upcoming position qualification requirements changes.
  • Participates in regular reflective supervision sessions and self-assessments to promote ongoing professional development.
  • Informs the supervisor of all concerns, observations, or information provided by a parent or guardian in a timely manner.
  • Occasional interaction and contact with outside agencies, vendors, funders, volunteers, donors, and contributors.
  • Aligns work behaviors with Generations’ Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to Tribal history, lifestyle, and culture.
  • Provides a pleasant, safe, and clean environment for children and staff.
  • Participates in fire and earthquake drills.
  • Meet established attendance requirements.
  • Travel as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all aspects of work and in alignment with policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of Early Childhood Education.
  • Ability to stay focused on the job.
  • Must be able to familiarize yourself quickly and accurately with new and existing computer software and office procedures and operate a variety of office equipment.
  • Utilizes computer software to access and prepare specific reports, resolutions, and necessary documents.
  • General computer skills such as the Internet and popular software programs, including, but not limited to, Email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrated as being able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with professionalism, excellent grammar, respect, and courteousness.
  • Prior experience and a demonstrated ability to motivate, engage with and work effectively and professionally with parents and other adults as well as with children from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Flexible and able to meet the changing needs of the program.
  • Able to travel to attend conferences and schedule in-service training throughout the year.
  • Ability to work flexible hours for scheduled weekend or evening activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Able to travel during the day and/or night, sometimes long distances.

Education and Experience
Required:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Two years of preschool teaching experience.
  • 12 core semester units of early childhood education/child development, including 3 units of infant care coursework from an accredited college, OR interest and ability to obtain 12 core semester units of early childhood education/child development, including 3 units of infant care coursework from an accredited college.   
  • All offers are contingent upon signing a confidentiality agreement and satisfactory completion of drug screening and background checks, including a Livescan fingerprint check. Employer observes federal standards for controlled substances.
  • Required to possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Tribe’s insurance carrier.

Preferred:

  • An associate degree in early childhood education/child development.
  • Prior experience working with children with special needs is highly preferred.

Certificates And Licenses

  • Must maintain a current Infant and Child C.P.R. First Aid certification or ability to complete these requirements within three months of being hired.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Verbal communication sufficient to exchange accurate ideas and information.
  • Able to handle or feel objects, utilize manual and automatic office equipment.
  • Able to stand, bend, reach down and stretch overhead, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Frequently move, transport, and manipulate equipment and items up to 35 pounds.
  • May lift or hold infants and occasionally children up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Safely use kitchen equipment and implements that can be heavy, hot, or sharp, as well as cleaning and sanitizing products.
  • Able to complete job tasks in an environment that can be noisy and includes the comings and goings of small children and their families.
  • Complete a Successful Tuberculosis (T.B.)
  • Must comply with regulatory immunization requirements.

Compensation: The hiring range for this position is from $20 to $24 per hour. The compensation offered for this position will fall between this range based on the candidate’s level of skills, experience, and education.
