Duties
- Operate power tools to excavate and prepare sites for fiber optic cable installation.
- Install, splice, and test fiber optic cables ensuring optimal performance of telecommunications networks.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans to accurately execute cable routing and network configurations.
- Conduct telecommunications outside plant operations including cable burying, splicing, and testing using specialized diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
- Follow safety protocols aligned with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) during all outdoor work activities.
- Use hand tools and power tools efficiently for cabling, trenching, and equipment setup while maintaining safety standards.
- Troubleshoot engineering issues within fiber optic networks or telecommunication systems by applying technical troubleshooting support skills.
- Collaborate with team members on network infrastructure projects involving LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, telephony systems, and IT infrastructure components.
Skills
- Proven experience in field service operations with outdoor work environments involving construction and telecommunications projects.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation including tools used in cable installation.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools for testing fiber optic systems and telecommunication testing equipment.
- Skilled in telecommunications cable splicing, fiber splicing, and interpreting technical drawings related to network infrastructure.
- Familiarity with telecommunications outside plant operations, fiber optic cables, cabling techniques, and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
- Technical proficiency in computer networking concepts such as LAN, WAN, Ethernet connections, and telephony systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot engineering issues within fiber optic networks or IT infrastructure using technical troubleshooting support methods.
- Experience with construction practices related to telecommunications infrastructure including interpreting technical schematics.
- Knowledge of telecommunication standards for outdoor work environments along with safety protocols to ensure compliance during all operations.
