What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard General Laborer position at H & R Construction Co.?
H&R Const. Co., a highway construction contractor in Dalton, Minnesota, is now taking applications for a Yard General Laborer. This position plays a key role in our organization, supporting the coordination of receipts and deliveries to various projects and sites throughout Minnesota. This is a seasonal position, typically running from March through December.
We're a highly driven, goal-oriented team, and we're looking for someone who is self-motivated and takes pride in getting the job done right.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload construction materials on semis using telehandlers, skid steers, and forklifts
- Unload and verify material receipts from suppliers
- Assemble and stage various construction materials and equipment for delivery
- Maintain and organize materials throughout the yard, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
- Monitor and count inventory availability
- Maintain coherence and uniformity of stored material
- Occasionally haul materials and equipment to and from job sites
- Perform other tasks as needed

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Physical ability for manual labor and the ability to work in all weather conditions
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Ability to work flexible hours, with the potential to work weekends (as required during construction season)
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or ability to receive one (company paid)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test
Preferred Qualifications
- Construction experience
- Equipment operation experience (forklift, telehandler, skid steer, etc.)
- Experience loading and unloading semis
- Experience loading and hauling heavy equipment
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
