Job Overview
H & N Services LLC is seeking resilient, compassionate, and safety-focused Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide care and supervision to male children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and complex behavioral needs in a residential setting.
This position involves working with youth who may experience emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, aggression, and self-injurious behaviors. DSPs must be prepared to respond to unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations in a calm, professional, and trauma-informed manner. The role requires strong situational awareness, the ability to follow behavior support plans, and a commitment to maintaining the safety of residents, staff, and the community.
As a DSP, you will play a critical role in fostering a structured, therapeutic environment that promotes stability, accountability, personal growth, and quality of life while upholding each resident’s rights and dignity.
Key ResponsibilitiesCare, Supervision, and Safety
- Provide continuous supervision and direct care, including assistance with personal hygiene, grooming, meals, medication administration, and daily routines.
- Actively monitor for safety risks, including behaviors that may result in harm to the resident or others.
- Respond appropriately to behavioral crises, including aggression, property destruction, elopement risk, and self-harm behaviors, following approved protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free living environment at all times.
Behavioral and Developmental Support
- Implement Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) with fidelity.
- Use approved de-escalation, redirection, and crisis-prevention techniques during high-stress situations.
- Support residents in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, accountability, and independence.
Monitoring and Documentation
- Accurately document daily activities, behavioral incidents, interventions, and progress notes in compliance with state regulations and agency policy.
- Report safety concerns, injuries, or critical incidents promptly and appropriately.
Emotional Support and Relationship Building
- Build professional, supportive relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Provide reassurance and structure during periods of heightened emotional distress.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with supervisors, fellow DSPs, clinicians, case managers, and families to ensure coordinated and consistent care.
- Participate in required trainings, drills, and staff meetings related to safety, behavior management, and regulatory compliance.
Experience
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or dementia is preferred.
- Knowledge of resident rights and advocacy principles is essential.
- Experience in direct support roles within assisted living or similar environments is a plus.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and assist clients with mobility challenges.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients, families, and team members.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that respects the dignity of all individuals.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
