H.F. Lenz Company is seeking an experienced a Mechanical/HVAC Design Engineer to lead the mechanical/HVAC design projects in our Johnstown office. As a HVAC Design Engineer, the candidate will provide engineering solutions, production and project delivery for a diverse portfolio of projects and clients in the commercial, government and mission critical market segments.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading design projects of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Size and specify mechanical equipment, including duct work, air handling units, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, etc.
  • Perform heating/cooling load calculations, site visits, surveys, reports and commissioning in support of mechanical design for commercial building, healthcare, educational and government facilities.
  • Lead engineering team members in cross-functional setting and collaborate to ensure that the design is accurate and that contract responsibilities are met according to client's expectations.
  • Review and interpret building codes, client specifications, as well as help improve and maintain current quality assurance processes.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors for selection and specification of appropriate equipment.
  • Directly interface with clients and architects for engineering and design consultations.
  • Travel to local project sites may be required; some overnight travel may be expected.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical focus from ABET accredited college or university.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with an MEP engineering consultant in Mechanical/HVAC Building System Design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Trane Trace software applications is required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines and provide outstanding service to clients.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in and foster a team environment with minimal supervision.

License(s) and/or Certification(s):

  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • EIT certification is highly preferred.
