Overview
The Recovery Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery from addiction and mental health challenges. This position requires a compassionate and dedicated professional who can provide guidance, support, and resources to clients in various stages of recovery. The Recovery Specialist will work closely with clients to develop personalized recovery plans, facilitate group sessions, and ensure a safe and supportive environment for healing.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to determine client needs and create individualized recovery plans.
- Provide addiction counseling and mental health support through one-on-one sessions.
- Providing case managment. This includes dishcarge planning and follow ups.
- Employ motivational interviewing techniques to encourage client engagement and progress.
- Mentor clients by sharing personal experiences and strategies for successful recovery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and resources for clients.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and treatment plans in compliance with organizational policies.
- Participate in crisis management situations as needed, providing immediate support to clients in distress.
- Stay informed about current trends in behavioral health, addiction treatment, and recovery systems.
Requirements
- Experience in addiction counseling or mental health counseling is highly desirable.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Strong skills in crisis intervention and management are essential.
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing techniques is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in the fields of addiction and mental health.

Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in a related field preferred.
- Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorders is essential; previous experience in a support role is a plus.
- Certified and Registered as a Peer Recovery Specialist in the state of Virginia (or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe) is preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build rapport and trust with clients from diverse backgrounds. Understanding of recovery principles, addiction treatment, and community resources related to substance use. Compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental; ability to inspire hope and motivate clients in their recovery journey.
