About the Role
We’re hiring a hands-on Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller to own our accounting function end-to-end in Sage 50. This is a department-of-one role responsible for cleaning up and stabilizing the books, leading month-end close, managing AP and AR, coordinating/processing payroll (with leadership approvals), maintaining simple job costing, implementing practical internal controls, and delivering management reporting and KPIs leadership can rely on.
Transportation/trucking industry experience is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities
· Month-end close: bank/credit card reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, balance sheet schedules
· General ledger ownership: maintain accurate coding, documentation, and financial integrity in Sage 50
· Accounts Payable (AP): vendor setup/maintenance, bill entry/coding, payment prep, statement reconciliations
· Accounts Receivable (AR): customer setup, invoicing, cash application, collections cadence, AR aging/DSO reporting
· Payroll: coordinate/process payroll (weekly/biweekly), post payroll entries, reconcile payroll accounts/liabilities
· Simple job costing: ensure AP and payroll costs hit the correct job; produce job profitability reports that tie to the GL
· Internal controls: approvals, access/permissions, documentation standards, payment and payroll safeguards
· Management reporting KPIs: monthly reporting package (P&L, cash summary, AR/AP aging, job profitability) plus KPI dashboard

· Reconciliations current and clean
· Close calendar and checklist established and followed
· Reliable AR aging with a consistent collections rhythm
· Job profitability reporting that ties to financials
· Monthly management reports KPIs delivered on schedule
· Practical controls implemented without slowing operations down
Qualifications
· 5 years of progressive accounting experience (small company / department-of-one preferred)
· Strong month-end close and reconciliation experience
· Experience owning AP AR, including invoicing and collections
· Payroll processing/coordination experience and solid payroll accounting knowledge
· Sage 50 experience preferred (or similar system with ability to ramp quickly)
· Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reporting templates)
· Independent, organized, high-integrity, and comfortable building process
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior cleanup experience (books behind, missing processes, unreliable reporting)
· Job costing experience and profitability reporting
· Experience implementing internal controls in a small-company environment
· Transportation/trucking experience (preferred, not required)
