Senior Linux Systems Administrator

Role DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Systems Administrator to support mission-critical infrastructure environments for Federal and DoD customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and optimization of enterprise Linux environments supporting business-critical applications, cloud platforms, and cybersecurity initiatives.
The Senior Linux Administrator will play a key role in infrastructure modernization efforts, including cloud migrations, system hardening, automation, virtualization, and hybrid-cloud deployments. Responsibilities include managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments, implementing security controls, supporting high-availability architectures, performing system upgrades, and ensuring compliance with Federal and DoD cybersecurity requirements.
This position requires close collaboration with engineering, cybersecurity, network, cloud, and application teams to maintain secure, scalable, and highly available infrastructure supporting government operations.
Key Responsibilities- Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise Linux server environments, primarily Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Perform Linux server installations, upgrades, patching, configuration management, and lifecycle maintenance.
- Manage system performance, capacity planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Implement and maintain security hardening in accordance with DoD STIGs, NIST, and RMF requirements.
- Support infrastructure modernization initiatives, including cloud migration and hybrid-cloud deployments.
- Automate system administration tasks using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar automation tools.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, access controls, and privileged access management.
- Support virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere and container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Administer enterprise storage, file systems, backup solutions, and disaster recovery processes.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities and support compliance audits.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across operating systems, applications, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
- 5 years of Linux Systems Administration experience in enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration and support.
- Experience implementing and maintaining DoD STIG compliance and security hardening standards.
- Proficiency with Linux scripting and automation tools such as Bash, Python, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Experience with VMware virtualization technologies and enterprise storage systems.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, load balancing, and system security.
- Experience supporting cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Government Cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
- Security CE, CISSP, or other DoD 8570/8140-compliant certifications.
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or container orchestration platforms.
- Experience supporting Federal Civilian, DoD, or Intelligence Community environments.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher is required.
- This position is primarily remote within the United States, with occasional travel to customer sites as required.
