What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Laboratory Technician Intern position at Gwinnett County?
Gwinnett County’s Department of Water Resources is currently recruiting to hire Laboratory Technician Intern for Summer 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain knowledge and experience through practical business challenges while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills.
INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE:
- Summer interns will work 40 hours per week
- Internship dates are June 1 – July 31, but are subject to change at the discretion of the Department
- Interns are required to deliver a formal presentation to the leadership team summarizing project outcomes, insights gained, and overall internship experience at the end of the internship
Hourly Rate: $20.36
Essential Duties
- Coordinate and participate with field team for sample collection
- Assist with sample transportation and preparation
- Assist with water quality analysis under supervision
- Assist DWR staff with data analysis and reports
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Science or Engineering, preferably Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, or related major.
- Proficiency in Microsoft EXCEL and Word.
- A valid driver's license from state of residency
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
- Experience in wet chemistry laboratory techniques is preferred
- Strong work or educational background and/or understanding of water quality analysis
- Good laboratory technique and safety awareness
- Experience with analytical instrumentation
- Well organized, detail oriented, and dependable
- Interested in learning new lab techniques
- Will represent Gwinnett County DWR with professionalism and courtesy

Moderate physical activity including stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and the ability to lift 50 pounds
