Essential Duties
The grade for this position is 304. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Job Description
The Deputy Director of IT Technology Operations provides leadership and oversight for the division’s technical infrastructure, data services, and disaster recovery functions. This role works closely with the CIO and IT leadership team to support enterprise technology strategy while ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable technology services across the organization.
The Deputy Director oversees multiple technical teams responsible for enterprise platforms, network services, technical services, and disaster recovery planning and execution. This position plays a key role in advancing enterprise technology modernization, strengthening operational resilience, and supporting implementation of the county’s enterprise technology strategy and roadmap.
Essential Duties
- Partner with the CIO and IT leadership team to support long-term planning for enterprise infrastructure and platform modernization
- Lead the management and execution of technical operations across Infrastructure, Data Services, and Disaster Recovery
- Oversee the daily operations of technical teams including Enterprise Platforms (Infrastructure), Network Services, Technical Services, and Disaster Recovery
- Ensure the security, availability, and scalability of network, systems, and cloud infrastructure environments
- Provide leadership and oversight for initiatives related to network security, system design, engineering, radio communications, telecom, and data center operations
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend opportunities to enhance organizational capabilities
- Provide technical leadership and advisory support to the CIO and executive leadership on infrastructure and technology services
- Maintain compliance with relevant data security and privacy regulations
- Coordinate disaster recovery planning and testing to safeguard organizational assets and ensure rapid recovery from disruptions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure and platform solutions with business requirements
- Manage resource allocation, budgeting, and performance metrics for technical operations
- Develop and implement policies, standards, and best practices to optimize technical operations and service delivery
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and responsible technology innovation
- Maintain strategic vendor relationships and manage external partnerships related to technical infrastructure and services
- Mentor and develop technical leaders and staff to strengthen team capabilities and succession planning
- Oversee IT audits, regulatory compliance, and security incident response
- Develop succession plans and leadership pipelines within the technology organization
- This job is a civilian position in either a public safety department or in Information Technology with close ties to public safety. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a public safety background which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or related field AND
- Nine years of progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment, including two years at the Division Director level;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Proven leadership experience managing complex technical teams across multiple disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure, network security, systems design, cloud operations, telecommunications, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with enterprise platforms, data center operations, and technical service delivery.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead large-scale technical projects and operational initiatives.
- Experience with budgeting, resource management, and performance monitoring.
- Strong understanding of industry best practices, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Master’s degree in business administration, information technology, computer science, engineering, or related field AND
- Ten years of experience in managing technical operations, infrastructure, or related IT functions
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI/ML), automation, and other emerging technologies relevant to enterprise IT operations, infrastructure, and service delivery.
