What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Assembly Team Lead position at Gutor?
SUMMARY OF THE JOB
The Team Leader oversees a small team (4–10) of electrical assemblers responsible for installing, routing, and terminating wiring and components for large Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. In addition to performing hands-on wiring tasks, this role plans daily work, assigns tasks, coaches team members, ensures adherence to safety and quality standards, and drives on-time delivery and continuous improvement.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Assembly & Wiring (Hands-On)
- Install and route wiring harnesses, cable trays, and control wiring per schematics, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
- Terminate wires using approved crimping, soldering, ferruling, and connector assembly methods; verify torque per spec.
- Mount and integrate electrical components (breakers, bus bars, current transformers, contactors, PLC/controls, HMI panels) in high-capacity UPS enclosures and skids.
- Label conductors and components per BOM/line list; maintain wire dress and bend radius standards.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Conduct continuity, polarity, and insulation resistance tests; assist with point-to-point verification.
- Perform first-article and in-process quality checks; contain defects and initiate corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with NEC/UL/IEC labeling and wiring practices and company QMS procedures.
- Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) readiness with documentation and rework coordination.
Documentation & Traceability
- Read/interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, wiring diagrams, and build-of-materials.
- Complete routing sheets, checklists, rework tickets/NCRs, and production logs accurately and on time.
- Provide redlines to engineering for drawing errors or improvement suggestions.
Team Leadership & Coordination Duties
People Leadership
- Assign daily work, set priorities, balance resources across stations, and approve breaks/rotation.
- Train and cross-train team members on wiring standards, tools, test methods, ESD/arc-flash practices, and 5S.
- Conduct on-the-job coaching, skill assessments, and contribute to performance feedback.
- Promote a positive, accountable team culture focused on safety, quality, and delivery.
Safety & Compliance
- Lead daily start-of-shift safety huddles and enforce LOTO, PPE, ESD, and energized work boundaries.
- Perform safety audits, 5S audits, and near-miss reporting; escalate hazards immediately.
- Ensure tooling calibration, crimp-tool validation, and panel clearance standards are met.
Production Control
- Execute the build plan: sequence work to meet takt time, milestones, and ship dates.
- Monitor WIP, remove blockers, request materials, and coordinate with stores/receiving for shortages.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Test, Quality, and Engineering to resolve issues quickly.
- Track team metrics (FTQ, defects, hours vs. standard, on-time completions).
Continuous Improvement
- Lead kaizen/5S events within the cell; standardize best practices and visual work aids.
- Implement error-proofing (color-coding, keyed connectors, terminal markers, checklists).
- Reduce rework and improve first-pass yield through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in electrical assembly or industrial wiring preferred.
- 3–5 years of electrical wiring/installation experience in industrial/power systems or panel building.
- Proven ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-lines, and panel layouts.
- Proficient with crimping (ratcheting tools, die selection), ferruling, torque tools, and test equipment (DMM, megger).
- Knowledge of electrical safety practices (NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA) and quality systems.
- Experience guiding others on the floor—work assignment, coaching, or mentoring.
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Gutor in the US.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior team lead/working lead experience (4–10 direct reports in a production cell).
- Familiarity with UPS systems, power distribution assemblies, and FAT processes.
- Experience with lean manufacturing (5S, standard work, visual management, problem-solving/A3).
- Basic mechanical aptitude (panel/enclosure fit-up, cable tray, gland plates, torqueing).
