GutVann Architecture and Consulting is a New Jersey–based architecture and engineering practice specializing in healthcare and commercial building design. Our MEP team designs the mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems that keep hospitals, medical office buildings, and commercial facilities running safely and efficiently. We work on technically demanding projects governed by strict code and life-safety requirements, and we invest in engineers who want to grow into that complexity.
We're hiring a Junior HVAC/Plumbing Design Engineer to support our MEP team on healthcare and commercial projects from schematic design through construction documents. You'll work directly with senior engineers, learning to design and document mechanical and plumbing systems that meet demanding performance, code, and life-safety standards. This is a hands-on role with real project responsibility and a clear path toward professional licensure.
What you'll do:
- Assist in the design and layout of HVAC and plumbing systems for healthcare and commercial buildings
- Produce and revise construction documents in AutoCAD and/or Revit under the direction of senior engineers
- Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, and system selections with guidance
- Help coordinate MEP systems with architectural and structural disciplines to resolve conflicts
- Support code compliance reviews and assist in preparing permit and construction document sets
- Incorporate redlines and markups accurately and efficiently
What we're looking for:
- Entry-level to 2 years of experience in MEP, HVAC, or plumbing design
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related), ideally with HVAC/plumbing coursework — OR equivalent design exposure
- Exposure to Revit
- Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
- Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn from senior engineers
- Able to work full-time, in-office, in Lakewood, NJ
Nice to have:
- Healthcare or commercial building systems experience
- EIT / FE exam passed or in progress
- Familiarity with mechanical/plumbing code (IMC, IPC) and life-safety requirements
Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
