Transmission Line Engineer (PE) – Hybrid | Carolinas West Region
Location: Charlotte, NC Hybrid – 3 days/week in office or field

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Transmission Line Engineer to support our Carolinas West region. This role provides advanced engineering, technical expertise, and design support for transmission line projects. The ideal candidate brings strong proficiency in transmission line design, can work independently with minimal supervision, and is comfortable performing both office and field duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering and technical expertise in overhead transmission line design.
- Analyze scenarios, evaluate design options, and perform detailed engineering calculations in compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
- Support routing/siting, conceptual design, cost estimating, and detailed design for transmission line structures, foundations, and electrical components.
- Prepare complete and accurate job packages, technical reports, drawings, documentation, and calculations.
- Lead and conduct engineering studies and non-routine design work with minimal oversight.
- Manage project schedules, interfaces, and deliverables while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide construction support, including troubleshooting, field visits, problem resolution, and modification of designs to address real-world conditions.
- Recommend process improvements and enhancements to design standards.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across engineering teams, construction teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Make informed engineering decisions that directly impact project performance and business results.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program OR Professional Engineer (PE) licensure (Master’s degree may substitute for B.S.).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
- Utility industry experience.
- Proficient in transmission line design, including structure, foundation, and electrical design.
- Hands-on experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, MFAD, and other design tools.
- Strong understanding of engineering theories, transmission line standards, and applicable design codes.
- Demonstrated ability to research solutions, evaluate alternatives, and make sound engineering recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in project management principles.
