What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electronics & UAV Flight Operations Technician position at GuRu Wireless?
Electronics & UAV Flight Operations Technician
Pasadena, CA
GuRu Wireless Inc. is leading the innovation in high-frequency RF wireless power transfer systems and is developing one-of-a-kind long-range wireless power solutions for UAVs. We are building a team of passionate thinkers and doers to support this vision. If you are highly motivated and interested in tackling the most challenging problems, we’d love to hear from you.
We are looking for a hands-on, multidisciplinary Electronics & UAV Flight Operations Technician to help build, assemble, rework, test, and troubleshoot advanced electronic, electromechanical, and robotic systems.
This is a practical, detail-oriented role split between the bench and the flight-test environment. You will be responsible for high-precision soldering and mechanical box-builds, as well as preparing, maintaining, and repairing custom drones for our flight-testing team. This is a perfect fit for someone who thrives on building real hardware, enjoys solving tangible problems under tight timelines, and loves seeing their bench work take flight.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
· Electronics & Electromechanical Assembly
o Perform high-quality soldering, rework, and repair on electronic assemblies, including small surface-mount (SMT) components under a microscope.
o Assemble, modify, and repair PCBs, custom wiring harnesses, connectors, and complex cable assemblies.
o Execute mechanical box-build assembly, final system integration, and prototype builds utilizing screws, standoffs, heatsinks, thermal pads/paste, and enclosures.
· Testing, Diagnostics & Support
o Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, electronic loads, and other diagnostic equipment for hardware bring-up and troubleshooting.
o Inspect assemblies for solder quality, mechanical fit, correct wiring, polarity, connector placement, and overall workmanship.
o Document assembly steps, test results, flight logs, rework notes, and failure analysis.
o Support engineering teams with miscellaneous startup hardware tasks, including tracking parts inventory, building test fixtures, and maintaining an organized, ESD-safe lab environment.
· UAV & Flight Test Operations
o Build and repair custom drone platforms, including integrating flight controllers, Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs), motors, receivers, and payload hardware.
o Act as a core member of the drone flight-test team, preparing aircraft for flight, conducting pre-flight/post-flight checklists, and ensuring hardware safety.
o Perform routine maintenance and field repairs on testing fleets to minimize downtime during flight-test campaigns.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Precision Soldering: Strong soldering and PCB rework skills, with experience handling small passive components, delicate assemblies, and wiring harnesses.
· Mechanical Aptitude: Excellent mechanical assembly skills and attention to detail with small hardware, thermal interfaces, compact enclosures, and brackets.
· Startup Mindset: Careful, patient, and quality-focused, with the flexibility to adapt as priorities shift in a fast-paced development environment.
· Experience with UAVs, Quadcopters, RC Planes, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
· Experience with advanced soldering techniques (fine-pitch SMT rework, hot air rework, drag soldering, QFNs, or BGAs).
· Technical Diagnostics: Ability to read schematics, interpret PCB layouts, and utilize standard bench test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes) for troubleshooting and continuity/voltage checks.
· Familiarity with power electronics, battery management systems (BMS), Lithium-Polymer (LiPo) battery safety, or RF hardware.
· Understanding of ESD-safe practices and lab safety guidelines.
· Basic computer proficiency for logging test results, capturing failure-analysis photos, and updating inventory tracking sheets.
