Position Title: Athletic Trainer
Location: Guntersville High School
FSLA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Guntersville High School Principal
Contract Period: 240 Days
Salary Range: Board Approved Salary Schedule depending on experience
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate area of specialization. (Master’s preferred)
2. Certified, and in good standing, or eligible to be certified through the Alabama and/or
National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
3. Alabama State Athletic Training License
4. Minimum 3 years’ experience providing high school or collegiate athletic training
services.
5. Possess and demonstrate high ethical standards, accountability and integrity.
6. Eligible to receive an Alabama Teaching Certification
Background Check:
1. Required (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment,
employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the
Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
Background Check:
1. Demonstrates and executes the required skills and knowledge by responding to
emergency medical situations, rendering an analysis on the situation/injury, and
administering emergency medical care.
Essential Duties
1. Schedule and coordinate coverage for all varsity and JV sporting events
2. Provide emergency care of an athletic injury; perform tests and measurements as an aid in
the evaluation of an athletic injury
3. Provide appropriate general treatment orders approved by team physician
4. Provide referral of non-manageable injuries to an appropriate qualified medical
professional
5. Design and implement effective rehabilitation and/or corrective exercise protocols for
injured athletes.
6. Serve as liaison between team physician/ specialist, coaches, parents, athletes, and school
administrative personnel
7. Document all related activities/treatment by completing predetermined forms/reports, and
maintaining all information in a confidential manner.
8. Must display an ability to interpret written, oral and diagnostic form instructions and the
ability to use good judgment and to remain calm in high stress situations.
9. Exhibit proper taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic equipment.
10. Schedule and assist in performing pre-participation physical exams and cognitive
baseline testing
11. Assist with strength and conditioning programs
12. Assist with the development and implementation of athletic training procedures.
13. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising
professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information
14. Maintain proper certifications, licensure, and continuing education through state and/or
national associations.
15. Maintain professional growth and competence through professional development.
16. Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state
and federal rules and regulations.
17. Teach and lead an Athletic Training Program to interested students
18. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
