Gunter Construction Company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Civil Estimator to join our estimating team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone interested in building a career in heavy civil and concrete construction estimating. The Estimator will work closely with experienced estimators to learn the bidding and estimating process for projects including concrete paving, street rehabilitation, concrete flatwork, dirt work, earthwork, grading, sidewalks, trails, and municipal/public works construction.
We are looking for someone who is organized, comfortable working with numbers, willing to learn, and interested in developing a long-term career in construction estimating.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing estimates for heavy civil and concrete construction projects
- Review construction plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs under the direction of experienced estimators
- Assist with estimating labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs
- Request and organize pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
- Assist with preparing bid proposals and supporting documentation
- Enter and maintain estimating information and project pricing
- Help maintain organized bid files and historical cost information
- Attend pre-bid meetings and job site visits as needed
- Work with Estimators, Project Managers, Operations, and field personnel
- Learn KDOT, MoDOT, KCMO, and municipal specifications and bidding requirements
- Learn and develop proficiency with estimating and takeoff software
Qualifications
- 3 years of construction, estimating, engineering, or related experience
- Interest in heavy civil, concrete, streetscapes or municipal construction
- Ability to read construction plans and specifications
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Experience with B2W Estimate (Bid2Win) or PlanSwift is preferred but not required
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn and grow within the estimating department
- Valid driver's license
