π Lead Safety Excellence at a 75-Year Legacy Trucking Company
Gully Transportation, a family-owned carrier with over 75 years of safe operations, is looking for an experienced Safety Director to champion our zero-incident culture. Headquartered in Quincy, IL, we operate a fleet of 200 trucks and 700 trailers, providing full truckload, partial, and logistics solutions across the Midwest and beyond.
This is a high-impact leadership role for a hands-on safety professional who wants to drive real results in a stable, growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously strengthen our comprehensive safety program and policies in full alignment with FMCSA, DOT, and state regulations
- Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses β identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Manage and improve CSA scores while maintaining an excellent FMCSA safety rating
- Oversee new driver orientation as well as all driver safety training programs (defensive driving, hours-of-service, hazmat handling, and ongoing training)
- Conduct regular safety audits, facility inspections, and ride-alongs
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Recruiting to embed safety into daily operations
- Stay ahead of regulations, Samsara telematics, ELDs, cameras, and emerging safety technologies
- Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior leadership
- Oversee the drug & alcohol testing program and driver qualification (DQ) files (maintained by dedicated compliance staff)
- Lead the Safety Committee and build a proactive safety-first culture across the company
Qualifications
Required:
- 7 years of progressive safety leadership experience in the trucking/transportation industry
- Must hold a valid Class A CDL (clean driving record preferred)
- Deep knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, CSA, and related regulations
- Proven ability to improve safety metrics, reduce accidents, and strengthen CSA scores
- Strong analytical skills with experience using safety software and data-driven decisions
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
Preferred:
- CDS (Certified Director of Safety) certification
- Experience with Samsara telematics systems and Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
- Knowledge of and experience with OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards
- Background in tank, dry van, and reefer operations
- Familiarity with Midwest regional trucking
