Position Overview
Gulliver Preparatory School is currently seeking per diem bus drivers to join our team of professionals. The bus driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for students and staff to and from school, field trips, athletic events, and other school sponsored events according to a set schedule. The driver must be attentive to traffic and weather conditions, while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of the passengers. In addition, the driver is responsible for ensuring that their vehicle is in good operating condition at all times, maintaining a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Student Transportation: Safely operate the school bus on designated routes, adhering to strict time schedules for morning pickups and afternoon drop-offs.
- Special Events & Activities: Drive students and coaches/faculty to field trips, athletic competitions, and extracurricular events, which may occasionally include evening or weekend hours.
- Vehicle Safety & Maintenance: Perform mandatory pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (checking brakes, lights, tires, fluids, and emergency exits). Promptly report any mechanical defects or maintenance needs to the transportation supervisor.
- Student Management: Maintain discipline and ensure student safety while the bus is in motion. Enforce school bus safety rules and report any behavioral infractions to the appropriate school administration.
- Emergency Preparedness: Maintain a calm demeanor and follow established protocols in the event of an emergency, traffic accident, or inclement weather. Conduct mandatory passenger emergency evacuation drills.
- Cleanliness: Ensure the interior of the bus is kept clean, sanitary, and clear of debris daily.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Minimum Class B License and School Bus and Passenger Endorsement.
- Miami Dade County PTRD Hack License with School Bus Endorsement.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Criminal Background Check, Level II Fingerprint Screening(s), and Drug screen.
