What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Director | Leadership | Partner Track position at Gulla CPA?
Build Something Bigger Than a Tax Department
Gulla CPA is one of the fastest-growing CPA and advisory firms in the country. We are building a national firm centered around proactive tax advisory, integrated accounting, and fractional CFO services for business owners generating between $3 million and $50 million in annual revenue.
We are looking for an experienced Tax Director to lead our Tax Department while continuing to serve clients at a high level. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys mentoring people, improving processes, solving complex tax issues, and helping build a firm, not just working in one.
If you're looking for a long-term leadership opportunity with a clear path toward executive leadership and partnership, we'd love to talk.
What You'll Do
As Tax Director, you will oversee the firm's tax department while remaining actively involved in client engagements.
Your responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage the Tax Department, including Managers, Senior Tax Consultants, and Staff Accountants
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members through regular feedback and technical training
- Review complex business and individual tax returns
- Lead proactive tax planning engagements throughout the year
- Design and implement advanced tax strategies for closely held businesses and high-net-worth clients
- Oversee multi-entity, multi-state, and complex tax structures
- Participate in client strategy meetings and serve as a trusted advisor
- Monitor workflow, capacity planning, deadlines, and department performance
- Improve department processes, quality control, and efficiency
- Collaborate with the Accounting and Fractional CFO teams to deliver an integrated client experience
- Help shape the long-term vision and growth of the firm
What We're Looking For
- CPA license required
- 10 years of public accounting experience
- Previous experience leading or managing a tax team
- Strong background in proactive tax advisory and planning
- Deep knowledge of business taxation, entity structuring, and multi-state taxation
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Passion for mentoring others and building high-performing teams
- Desire to help grow a national advisory firm
Our Culture
We believe accounting firms should focus on creating value, not simply billing hours. Our clients engage us because they want strategic advice throughout the year, not just tax returns during filing season. We intentionally combine accounting, tax advisory, and CFO services under one team so clients receive proactive guidance from professionals who work together.
We also believe our employees should build careers, not just complete busy seasons. We invest heavily in our people, technology, and leadership development, creating an environment where talented professionals can grow and make a meaningful impact.
Partner Track
This role offers a defined path toward executive leadership and partnership. We are looking for someone who wants to help build the future of Gulla CPA by leading people, strengthening client relationships, growing revenue, and contributing to the firm's long-term success.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package that includes:
- Competitive base salary
- Performance-based bonus program
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer match
- Paid Time Off and paid holidays
- Firm-provided technology and equipment
- Continuing education and professional development
- Clear leadership and advancement opportunities
Compensation will be based on experience, leadership background, and market location.
