Job Title: Boat Yard Supervisor Position Overview
The Marine/Boat Yard Supervisor oversees daily operations within the boatyard, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality workflows related to vessel hauling, launching, storage, repair, and maintenance. This role manages yard staff, coordinates vessel movements, enforces safety standards, and maintains equipment and facilities to support smooth marine service operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day boatyard activities including hauling, launching, blocking, pressure-washing, and storage of vessels.
- Schedule and coordinate vessel movements with internal departments and customers.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of yard equipment such as travel lifts, forklifts, cranes, trailers, and power-washing systems.
- Monitor workflow to maintain efficiency, safety, and high service standards.
Staff Leadership
- Supervise, train, and mentor yard crew members to ensure skill development and consistent performance.
- Assign daily tasks, set expectations, and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address any personnel issues promptly.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety regulations, environmental policies, and OSHA and marina compliance standards.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
Customer Service
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding yard work, scheduling, and service needs.
- Address customer concerns promptly and maintain positive client relationships.
- Provide accurate information on job status, timelines, and yard policies.
Maintenance & Facility Management
- Oversee maintenance and repair of yard equipment and machinery.
- Ensure the yard is clean, organized, and operating at peak functionality.
- Assist in planning and budgeting for capital improvements, equipment upgrades, and operational needs.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records of yard activities, equipment logs, and work orders.
- Coordinate with service managers, office staff, and vendors to support operations.
- Assist with inventory management of yard supplies and materials.
QualificationsRequired
- 3–5 years experience in a marine service environment, marina, or boatyard operations.
- Strong knowledge of vessel handling, marine equipment, and yard safety procedures.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
- Ability to operate heavy yard equipment (e.g., travel lift, forklift) or willingness to be trained.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks as needed.
Preferred
- Certifications in forklift, crane, or travel-lift operation.
- Basic mechanical, carpentry, or marine systems knowledge.
- OSHA or maritime safety training certifications.
Working Conditions
